This nerdy sermon will cover a wide variety of topics by the time all is said and done, but we'll ultimately explore the answer to the question, "Will Checkpoint stay in Twitch?" with all that is happening right now. The easy answer - yes, but a better answer will ultimately come through this video and nerdy sermon.

This might just be our most niche Nerdy Sermon to date. But dang it… I’m obsessed, and you can’t stop me unless you click away. Please don’t - let me geek out about this, I beg you.

If you follow us on Twitch, then you’ve already heard a bit of this rant, but I have become obsessed with this music video project on YouTube called Milgram. It’s one of the most creative ideas I’ve seen in a long while, and it’s put together so phenomenally that I can’t stop thinking about it.

Do you like death games like Danganronpa or Squid Game? It’s got that. Do you like anime OPs? You get ten per season. Do you like gorgeous animation and compelling anime characters? Got it. Do you like to decide the fate of murderers based on their feelings personified in a music video? A bit more specific, but if that’s you - you’re in luck.

This series is so compelling and especially worth talking about concerning the Christian faith because it centers around the concept of forgiveness, which is… kind of a big part of what we do. 

So what could J-pop have to do with Jesus? Let’s talk about it.

Cyberpunk Edgerunners may just be my anime of the year. The world was downright immersive. It made me feel like I was inside the video game. It fleshed things out in ways that a video game world can’t. The characters were impressive and brilliant. The music was bizarre and driving, just like Night City would expect. The story was an epic tragedy that kept driving from one episode to the next.

All in all - about as perfect as I could hope for.

But even more than just a delightful experience - the way that Edgerunners explored one of the best parts of Cyberpunk 2077 and the Cyberpunk universe built by Mike Pondsmith was what set it apart. The truth of Night City is that it’s a broken place. It’s the tragedy that makes it so compelling. And - since this is a nerdy sermon after all - I have to acknowledge that the Bible has its fair share of depraved tragedy in its pages. 

For this video, we’re focusing on David from Edgerunners and David (along with a few others) from the story of the nation of Israel. What hope do we have the Night City may or may not have? Let’s talk about it.

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say this or not, but I’m beginning to think that JRR Tolkien might have had some kind of connection to Christianity. I’m also even less sure if I’m allowed to say *whispers* that I’m enjoying the Rings of Power Amazon series.

For some bizarre and problematic reasons, folks have been upset with this show since the cast reveal, but it’s a pretty good show, especially if you’re a fan of The Lord of the Rings or just high fantasy. 

Some of the best works of fantastic storytelling are that the audience already knows how things will end up. We know that the Prince and Princess end up happily ever after. We know that Anakin will become Darth Vader until conquering the Dark Side for his children, even if it costs him an arm and a charred leg. We know those darn hobbits will climb the mountain and throw the ring in, defeating Sauron.

So why do we need this prequel story? Why is it worth our time when we know where things will end up? Well, believe it or not, this is a familiar issue to Christians - what do we do now that Jesus came, died, rose, and will come to us again? Let’s talk about it.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a behemoth of a new game that dropped, and I am barely chipping away at the surface. Still, I can’t just NOT talk about this game being fronted by the main character, which is essentially… clergy? Noah is an off-seer tasked with the responsibility to see someone off when they pass on from this life.

Except - something is wrong in the world of Xenoblade Chronicles 3. But, like any good manipulation story, none of our main characters know it. Noah is the first to start sniffing that something strange is happening. What happens when death looks less like passing on and more like a power grab? Let’s talk about it.
