Today is World Food Day, and a new Leger study shows that rising prices and changing lifestyles have made food access a pressing concern for most Canadians. The survey found (among other national figures) that:
-84% of Alberta residents admit to skipping one or more meals a day in the last 6 months (the national average was 77%, so Albertans were more likely to do so).
-78% of Albertans agree that a priority for Canada should be to ensure access to healthy food for all its citizens.
-66% of Albertans say that within their circle, there are people who do not eat well even if they can afford it.
-59% of Alberta residents believe that their grocery bill represents too much of their budget.
-65% of Alberta residents say that they are not always able to eat as healthily as they would like (slightly higher than the national average of 61%).
