Ephesians 6:10-20

Truth is a very fluid idea in our culture today. It is assumed to be, in and outside of the church, “What I feel or think.” But one could content that this personal notion of truth has left our pants down around our ankles as individuals and a Church. The belt of a Roman soldier in Paul’s day had two key functions: to fasten articles needed and tuck in the long skirts for greater freedom of movement in the battle. How can truth organize and create freedom of thought and movement?

The chaos brought by generational conflict divides families, churches and communities. God calls both parents and children to be responsible for their part in cultivating a Kingdom culture. This Sunday we look at the responsibility of children in the family.

We have to understand the twofold focus: not pushing children away and drawing them to Christ like maturity. The goal of parenting is raising godly adults, not children. Christian parenting is oriented toward inviting our kids to love God, and to know Him. They will learn to answer to God and not merely to learn how to negotiate our control. As we love Jesus and obey Him (John 14:15) we can introduce our children to the same thing.
