In particular, in the years since Lemon Stealing Whores was made, James Deen has been the subject of serious abuse allegations, including from his co-star and then-partner Joanna Angel. The director of the film, Hayley Paige, tragically passed away in 2007.

The adult film industry is not free of controversy. Issues including harassment and abuse, discrimination and prejudice, and breeches of contract terms and privacy have all made news headlines in recent times.
