"My job over the next 15 months is to talk to everyone in South Carolina, Republican or Democrat, and talk to them about what I will do for them," Dr. Andrews told WCPT. "Folks out there are so tired of the divisiveness and the 'vote for me because I'm not Lindsey Graham,' 'vote for me because I'm not Donald Trump.' People need to be told what I will do for them, what I will fight for so that they feel compelled to take the time to go to the voting booth. But the fact of the matter is, Lindsey Graham has been in the U.S. Senate for 22 years, which is half of my lifetime. And in that time, he has devolved from a relatively respectable member of the Senate who was willing to work across the aisle to someone who is up there to serve one and only [one] man, and that man is Donald Trump. All Lindsey Graham cares about is what will keep him in Donald Trump's good graces, what will keep his billionaire donors happy, his corporate donors, and what will help him get re-elected. He has left South Carolina behind, and as a result, you see a state down here that has been ruled by Republicans for decades, and we're on the bottom of nearly every ranking list, whether it's infant mortality, maternal mortality, infrastructure, quality of public education, folks living in poverty, food security, whatever. We're not doing well, and so it's time for folks to consider voting in a different way, and that is the vision that I'm going to be delivering to voters across the state over the next 15 months."

Joined by Enrico Mowatt of Mirror Digital, Richard Chew talks to Robin Steans, president of Advance Illinois. 

Steans discussed the Illinois State Board of Education’s recently released Children’s Adversity Index, "which includes, I believe, 14 indicators that you can get data on at the school and district level," Steans explained, "that tell us how likely is it that a student is dealing with something significant that is going to affect their mental health and their well-being, such that we're going to want to try to get resources there. It actually puts all of our school districts on a 10-point scale looking at all of these indicators . . . to see who's dealing with what level of traumatic activity that we should be handling at the state better."

The state's mean score is 5.66, with Chicago registering at 6.85. The index highlights high stress in rural and urban areas, emphasizing the need for systematic state support. Steans noted that the state has been proactive in addressing student well-being, but the upcoming loss of federal funding for mental health services will exacerbate existing challenges. She urged parents and community leaders to engage with schools to support trauma-informed practices and resources.
