On a team full of stars, Patrick Kane was among the brightest. The first player taken in the 2007 Draft, he burst onto the scene with a team-leading 72 points, and won the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year. A year later, he helped lead the Blackhawks back to the playoffs for the first time in seven years. Kane would play 16 seasons for the Blackhawks, scoring 446 goals, third in team history behind only Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita, and his overtime goal in Game 6 in 2010 gave the Blackhawks their first Stanley Cup since 1961.

WGN Radio’s Charlie Roumeliotis breaks down the Blackhawks’ 5-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings. Steve Konroyd joins the discussion from Little Caesars Arena to talk about Connor Bedard’s three-point game, a perfect special teams outing, Arvid Söderblom’s 45-save performance, and more.

Game 6 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Final in Philadelphia: The Blackhawks were up 3-2 in the series, and Game 6 went to overtime. About 4 minutes in, Patrick Kane skated down the left side with the puck and fired from an impossible angle. Unseen by most of the 20,000 in the building, and most watching on TV, Kane had scored. The only visible clue?  Kane and the Hawks tossing off their gloves in celebration.  The precise location of that puck still isn’t known, 15 years later.

An influential figure in sports and business, Arthur Wirtz helped solidify the NHL and the Chicago Blackhawks. Wirtz’s first stop was with the Red Wings, before buying a stake in the Blackhawks in 1950. He acquired outright ownership of the team in the 1960s, and it has remained in the family since. The team was passed to Arthur’s son, Bill, then on to Rocky Wirtz. Today, Arthur’s great-grandson Danny Wirtz serves as chairman and CEO.

Today we’re profiling the great Troy Murray, a third-round pick by the Blackhawks in 1980 who spent 12 of his 15 NHL seasons in Chicago. His best year came in 1986, when he posted a career-high 99 points and won the Selke Trophy as the league’s top defensive forward. After retiring, Troy joined the Blackhawks’ TV broadcast before transitioning to radio, where he’s been the color commentator for nearly two decades.
