14 - Campy Fun

Welcome to all of our new listeners - Ash finally has some friends! We talk about what it’s like to finally share this pod with more people in our lives and spoiler alert - it’s pretty terrifying. This is an episode of re-boots and throwbacks before we even get into the journal entries: Steph gives us an insider update on the Newbreed Girl hoodie re-launch and new Jurassic Park movie, Danielle shares about her experience at the BSB concert and looks forward to the My Chemical Romance comeback tour. We also dive into the phenomena of the cult classic The Room, TGIFridays and Chili’s as the pinnacle of “going out,” the ethics of partial stealing (it’s just ONE tampon), Danielle’s inexplicable foray into born-again Christianity and lastly, Steph’s best Edgar Allen Poe impression (seriously, her post was kind of a downer). How abouuuuut this is one of our favorite episodes, like, ever? Done.

This one is a rollercoaster of emotion! We come in hot, jumping right into the “No Zone,” dating, and how everyone is so googleable these days. We also talk about Danielle’s wedding but, more importantly, the 2002 themed party Steph just attended. Steph plays us a sample of the new MCR song and then we reminisce about the Presidential Fitness Test in school- sit and reach and cry, anyone? We also ponder The Ocean State, our favorite pastime of useless bargain hunting and the bizarre situation of college roommates. We end on a mashup of smalltown CT amusement parks and some of our favorite original “social” websites - how many will you remember?!

This week, Steph tries her hand at writing the episode description.  We just got back from Danielle’s bachelorette in New Orleans.  We chat about our time there, and our post NoLa road trip. Danielle reads us an entire url!  Steph shares her on-point British accent..  You’ll swear Helena Bonham Carter is in the room!  While we’re talking about reality TV, Danielle coins a new term; “micro-cults ™.  We talk about 5 Bands for 5 Bucks, reasons for sharing a stall with another girl, and Steph’s Relient K origin story. Danielle rounds out the episode with a gem of a synonym.

Can you just hear how much prettier we sound using our new fancy ring lights? On this ep, we reminisce about the nostalgia of snow days and the youthful oblivion of cramming boy after boy into the friendzone without even realizing it. You can also listen in as Danielle slowly re-discovers WINAMP and Steph remembers a defining moment involving cream cheese. We end on a weirdly serious note about vulnerability and how it's evolved with technology. This one is chock full of both nonsense and hot takes - enjoy!

We got new microphones! Unfortunately it turns out new equipment doesn’t improve content, just sound quality. You’re in for a ride: We’re talking high school Battle of the Bands (including multiple mortifying moments for Steph), the “OK” symbol before it was racist and Michael Jackson before he was a pedo. An innocent game of LJ roulette turns deadly serious when Danielle unearths a private entry filled with her spite for Steph. Also, how a 4th grade Lenscrafters trip made Danielle not trust her mom. We end on kind of a gross note talking about math class body modification, piercings and gauged ears. Also, does tanning count as a new year’s resolution?

After a way-too-long discussion about Spanx and other terrible underwear, Danielle covers a normal weekend in the life of a 16 year old. We break down “Trench” (the bastardization of dodgeball invented by our hometown’s schooling system) then get down to brass tacks and ponder important issues, like who named Wet Seal and is it named after the actual marine animal? We end with Steph’s recollection of a The Early November and Less than Jake concert followed by a traumatizing event at our high school that neither of us actually remembers.

It’s our holiday episode and we are getting Christmassy AF! Listen in as we read from our livejournals from Christmas 2002-2008, remember our Christmas sleepover tradition and go down a weird rabbit hole of our childhood toys (Squand and Gak, anyone?). We reflect on the time Steph got her first “celly,” that year Danielle based her entire personality on the scent of grapefruit and we find a way bring up Lizzie McGuire on 2 separate occasions. We also end on a weirdly vulnerable moment that we decided not to cut.

We talk about the Wolcott Country Fair and - more importantly - break down the difference between a fair and a carnival. We also talk the Lions Club (Girl Scouts for old men?), frisbees, and that time Steph watched Danielle jump out of a bar window.
