A.F.K. Organski (1923-88). An Italian-born academic who pioneered 'power transition theory' which explains general trends among warring states in the international system. Essentially it argues that the international order is one of violent struggle punctuated by periods of stability. And that during cycles of war, international dominance can and usually does transfer between states.
