July 30, 2022Episode 780: 09 - Amritabindu Upanishad - Mantras 11 to 14We go through waking, dream and deep sleep states. But the entity who goes through each state is different. It is called Vishwa, Taijasa & Prajna. What is the common entity that is present in each state? It is the Self. Each state excludes the other. But Self is same in all. This method of Anvaya-Vyatireka(Presence-Absence) is used to discriminate between Self & Not-Self in Vedanta. Mantra 11 of Amritabindu Upanishad speaks about this. Mantra 12 describes Pratibimba Vaada. The theory of reflection and makes us aware that just as the Moon reflecting in the bucket of water is different from the bucket, water & its nature, same way the Self reflecting in the Subtle body is different. Mantra 13 describes Avaccheda Vaada. The theory of limitation. Just as the pot cannot limit the space, same way the Body, Mind & Intellect cannot limit the Pure Consciousness or Self. Please support this podcast by pressing the follow button and support Chinmaya Mission Mumbai projects taken up by Swami Swatmananda, through generous donations. July 28, 2022Episode 780: How to chant om namah shivaaya ?Chanting by Swami Swatmananda(Chinmaya Mission)Do you chant mantras in any tune? Without intonations? If yes, then you are not getting the best results of the chanting. Mantras are powerful chants which produce sound vibrations to purify the environment, heal the body, calm the mind, improve concentration, decision-making, unite us with the Divine Spiritually. Vedic mantras have simple intonations. They are not very difficult to follow. But they give great results when we chant with intonation. The following are the basic Vedic intonations: 1. Svarita - without any sign. Chanted as Normal note 2. Udatta - A horizontal mark _ below the alphabet. Chanted one note lower than normal. 3. Anudatta - A vertical mark | above the alphabet. Chanted as a Higher note than normal4. Pluta - 2 vertical lines above the alphabet ||. Chanted by elongating the vowel of the alphabet. Om Namah Shivaya has an anudatta above ma. So ma of namaha must be chanted as a higher note. There is udatta below shi. So it has to be chanted one note lower. There is anudatta above ya. It is chanted as a higher note. All other alphabets like om, na & vaa are chanted as svarita or normal note. One has to leave the air out of the mouth after namah and before shivaaya. (Listen to the end of the reel for learning the chanting)Try chanting the mantra with the right intonation and experience the difference. Om Namah Shivaaya means the following:1. My prostrations to Lord Shiva2. I invoke auspiciousness3. I surrender to Lord Shiva4. I am one with Shiva5. I renounce(na mama is namaha) to attain bliss(shiva)May the right chanting of Om Namah Shivaaya lead us to Shiva-Auspiciousness & Bliss.
