Mrutyunjayaha - One who has won over death. One who protects the devotees from death. यस्मिन युक्ता ऋषयो देवताश्च तमेव ज्ञात्वा मृत्युपाशान्छिनत्ति yasmim yuktā ṛṣayō dēvatāṡca tamēva jñātvā mṛtyupāṡānchinatti In whom the devas and rishis are always connected and by understanding him one cuts all the bonds of death.
The Lord protects us from diseases, accidents etc. and also protects us from akaalamrutyu (untimely death)
The Lord also teaches us the wisdom of the Self and makes us realize that we are not body, mind or senses.
The story of the devotee Markandeya is an example of the Lord’s Grace and an ability to hold on to an ideal uncompromisingly.
This Mantra appearing in Rigveda, 7.59.12 and Yajurveda 3.60 is known as महामृत्युञ्जयमन्त्र-mahāmṛtyuñjayamantra. Vaishtha Maitravaruni is the Rishi of this Mantra in which Rudra is invoked as the deity.
