Talk 109 Verses 379-383

This talk discusses the technique of meditation and the appropriate posture while emphasising the importance of keeping the sense organs at bay and turning the mind within. Abandon anxieties for the body and identify with the source of illumination, the Pure Consciousness. Thoughts of the temporal world make us extroverted and bring sorrow. Instead establish the mind in the Bliss of the Absolute which is eternal, self-effulgent, the witness as the means to liberation.

Talk 108 - Verses 376-378

The repeated practice of samadhi avastha can lead to the state of Realisation and freedom from bondage, in a seeker with extreme dispassion. The supreme state is one of permanent enduring eternal Bliss, independent of any internal or external factors. This total state of abidance in Brahman comes about through vairagya as well as self-control, hence both are just as important for the mumukshu. Dispassion arises from a well developed sense of discrimination or viveka. Craving for sense pleasures has been compared to poison and the seeker is urged to discard all desires and selfish actions, drop all cravings and focus on the Self within.

Talk 107 - Verses 373-375

A seeker who has tivra mumukshutvam develops the vairagya for both internal and external renunciation in his craving to be liberated from the cycle of birth and death. Such a man of extreme dispassion is described as one who is yoked to the Lord with extreme devotion and he goes beyond all desires, attachments and the ego sense. Viveka or discrimination leads to dispassion or vairagya and the two are the most important qualifications for an Uttam adhikari seeking liberation.

Talk 106 - Verses 369-372

Mind and sense control lead to Brahma gyan gradually in stages, each leading to the other. These stages are, living in solitude, sense control, mind and intellect control which help in dissolution of the ego and Self Realisation. Speech control through mind control and alertness of the intellect as a witness is advised in the Kathopanishad. On the other hand, when we identify with the modifications of the body, mind, intellect we devolve to become that, hence we must be aware of these and choose the direction of our pursuit wisely. Hence dis-identify with the not-Self and revel in the Supreme Bliss.

Giridhanvaa - One who has the mount meru as his bow. This name is in the vedas रुद्राय स्थिरधन्वने गिर : & नम : स्थिराय च स्थिरधन्वने च

The significance is just as a mountain is steady and still, our body is the bow in contemplation. Our mind is the arrow which can contemplate steadily on the Truth only if the body is still.

Talk 105 - Verses 366-368 It is in only in the state of nirvikalpa samadhi that saguna Brahman is realised, when the mind is steady and withdrawn from all conditionings of the BMI and the ego. Nirguna Brahman is realised when the identifications and the upadhi are transcended completely. Hence focus on the goal of Brahman and with all the senses controlled, immerse the purified mind in the pursuit of Realisation. The seeker is guided towards samadhi yoga through various steps in this talk.

Talk 104 - Verses 363-365

This talk emphasises the importance of purushartha and constant practice for purification of the mind in preparation for samadhi. Gradually the state of savikalpa transforms to one of nirvikalpa samadhi, the state in which the triputi is transcended. Through this practice all the knots of the heart are destroyed along with the unmanifested vasanas and the Sanchit karma. The importance of reflection over mere listening and of meditation are explained.

Bhargaha: भर्ज्यन्ते दह्यन्ते पापानि अनेन इति भर्ग :

bharjyantē dahyantē pāpāni anēna iti bhārga :

Sins are burnt by the Lord and hence he is called Bhargaha.

Bharga is the form of Shiva worshipped by the Gayatri mantra. He is the one who gives brightness to the sun and blessess us from the centre of the surya mandala. In Aaditya Purana it is said –“One who is worshipped through Gayatri is Maheshwara the Lord of the gods.”

This name is also praised in various places in vedas.

एष रुद्रो भर्गात्मक : ēṣa rudrō bhargātmaka : This rudra is bharga.

Talk 103 Verses 358-362

Through the conditionings of the BMI, the upadhi, the Pure Consciousness appears as though diverse. However once the false identification has been dissolved, the wise man transcends duality and realises Brahman in the state of nirvikalpa samadhi. Single pointed, steady contemplation in a mind, devoid of all extrovertedness is essential for the mumukshu to gain liberation. The pure subtle Truth is imperceptible through all organs of perception and can be realised in a subtle mind cleansed of all impurities.
