  • 001.4 of 108 Names of Lord Shiva: Shiva 4 - Happiness & Self-Mastery
Shiva means one who is desired by all. Happiness is what is desired by all. In the world we only experience temporary pleasure. How do we experience Supreme Happiness? How do I get out of the sense of incompleteness and experience Supreme Bliss? Shiva reversed becomes Vashi. Vashi means Self-Mastery. If we master our Body, Breath, Mind, Intellect and align all of them, we attain Self-Mastery. Shiva is a Master of all these. Once we align these aspects, we can turn within and experience Absolute Bliss.

  • 001.2 of 108 Names of Lord Shiva: Shiva 2 - Pure
Our body has many impurities. It is made up of blood, bones, flesh, fat, skin etc. Mind also has 6 impurities – Selfishness/Lust, Anger, Greed, Delusion, Intoxication and Jealousy. Intellect also has impurities like doership, vanity, ego etc. But Shiva is free from all this as Pure Consiousness. We are also purest as Consciousness. We don’t have to look down upon ourselves due to these impurities. We must do sadhana, meditation and transcend attachment to BMI to realise that We are the Purest.

  • 001.1 of 108 Names of Lord Shiva: Shiva1- Auspicious
Shiva is the first name in the 108 names. Shiva means Auspicious. The form of Lord Shiva does not seem auspicious. Infact it seems inauspicious. He has a long jata. He does not take bath for a long time. He has Ash all around his body. He has snakes around his neck. He wears an elephant skin and tiger skin. When we think of these, it appears as though He is inauspicious. Yet, He is the most auspicious because He is an embodiment of values. Each of the above things have a deep symbolism. When we understand that and meditate on His Divine Form, we internalize these qualities and we also become Auspicious.

Om Namah Shivaya. We all want to experience Supreme Happiness and Bliss. We want to be free from pain, sorrow, misery and death. We strive hard to achieve this in the world, but it is not found outside. It can only be discovered within as our True Self. Lord Shiva is the very embodiment of the Supreme Bliss and the destroyer of all sorrows. By
contemplating on 108 names of Lord Shiva, we can
experience this Supreme Bliss. 108 names of Lord Shiva are mentioned in Shaankara-Samhita in the Shiva - Rahasya - Khanda of Skanda purāna . The hymn is initiated by Lord Nārāyana to Mother Gauri.( Pārvati )
We must understand that these names are not just a name for the sake of calling but each name has a deeper meaning and it points to an aspect of or an attribute of that form of Lord Shiva. Contemplating on these names helps us to imbibe these qualities, deepen our faith, sharpen our intellect, leading to Surrender of the ego and Union with the Supreme Lord.
Each of these 108 names we will be contemplating upon in this series of videos. Some names also have more than 1 video because it has deep meanings.
May the Grace of Lord Shiva be with us all.
    Om Namah Shivaya.

What are the symptoms that one should look out for when it relates to mental health issues? What is the family’s role within this? 5. How do you get the youth to realize the importance of anchoring within? 6. How does one explain to the youth who talks about no karma, no life after death? 7. Sometimes when parents go to mental health professional, professionals say don’t tell the kids anything but just listen to the kid, how do you deal with this? 8.
