Social media is here to stay. Are there benefits? Sure...but there are costs, huge costs, especially to the mental health of our kids. It's too late to truly regulate Facebook, Instagram, TikTok. We can try as parents to minimize use of these platforms, but ultimately, the one factor that we as chiropractors can do is to make sure that their brain-body connection is as strong and healthy as possible!

Two articles about Autism were published recently that seemingly contradict each other. One says profound Autism is on the rise. The other says that in Autism we have an 'epidemic of diagnosis' which the author calls 'progress.' Taking care of kids on the spectrum for over 30 years, there is NO DOUBT in my mind that there has been a huge increase in the number of kids with Autism, and it is NOT just a case of better diagnostics!

Just like The Polyvagal Theory has upended what we thought of as the Vagus nerve, research shows that we still have a lot to learn!

Chiropractic adjusting technique as it is taught is based mostly on the sense of touch. Maybe we can learn to use more than just the tactile sensation of our hands, by learning to 'listen' with our hands, with our eyes, with our ears, and with our hearts. This is how I suggest to better serve the kiddos who are minimally speaking, either because they are infants(pre-verbal) or because they are on the spectrum. Be relentless. Like the moss that is devouring a tree that has fallen, one molecule at a time. The moss doesn't think, "this tree is too big. We can never do this." It may takes months or even years but that tree will be 100% fertilizer in 'X' amount of time...whatever time it takes, the moss will accomplish its goal. How about you?
