I first met Patrick 12 years ago through our mutual friend Brad, and have been hanging out ever since. We've traveled to Nicaragua a couple of times to paint murals together with Love, Light and Melody, and also worked together when I was at Outdoor Retailer. When it comes to painting murals, Patrick is on the top of the food chain.
Topics Include:
Bio:
"Nature, animals and design elements are themes that my drawings, paintings and murals focus on. My work sparks conversation on disappearing nature and the encroachment of the modern world with subjects and their surroundings depicted in a harmony and balance that they wouldn't normally interact with. Travel and personal experiences drive the imagery used to tell specific stories in my work. I weave rich surreal elements and high detail-intensive components to create a unique viewing experience. "
Patrick has worked with brands like: Toms, Red Bull, Yeti, Denver Zoo, and Brekenridge Brewery.

He is a state and national champion across multiple disciplines and is a former winner of the Belgian Waffle Ride in San Diego. But this conversation isn't just for cyclists. Topics include:

You may not recognize his name, but you will for sure recognize his work. Davy has illustrated films such as Lion King, Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin, Mulan and Star Wars.⠀
⠀
"The founder of Kendu Films, Davy Liu, was born in Taiwan, the son of a prominent baker. As he later entered school, he earned poor grades in his academic studies resulting in very low self-esteem. He struggled with making straight A’s but was gifted in drawing straight lines.⠀
⠀
His family immigrated to the United States in 1982 where he met his 8th grade art teacher Poppy Kincaid. She discovered Davy’s talent and encouraged him with the words “You can do it”. That following year, Davy was selected as a top 20-award winner in a U.S. national art competition⠀
⠀
This instilled a confidence and passion in Davy that encouraged him to pursue art and later became a fine animator and production designer for Walt Disney Feature Animation, Warner Brother Feature Animation, and Industrial Light and Magic. Davy often recalls what his art teacher told him, “You can do it”. Therefore, Kendu Films hopes to create inspirational and wholesome content that encourages children and families everywhere to have a “Can Do” spirit.”⠀
⠀
Topic Discussed:⠀
⠀
•Teaching Michael Jackson how to draw Simba from Lion King⠀
•The importance of thinking about legacy⠀
•How encouragement can completely transform someone's life⠀

Todays guest Matt Kim is Founder and CEO of a Web3 startup called Smoothie (withsmoothie.com), and is an expert in all things Web3. ⠀
⠀
What is Web3 you ask? Well, you’ve probably heard the terms NFTs, crypto currency, blockchain and Metaverse—which are all elements of Web3. We are currently living in a Web2 world, and Web3 is the next iteration of our online experience. Which has already begun.⠀
⠀
After this conversation, you will not only have better grasp on those terms and why they matter, but also have practical applications that not only have the potential to make you money, but also give you the competitive advantage. Especially, if you’re a creator. ⠀
⠀
I wanted to have Matt on this podcast because a lot of musicians and visual artists worlds have been completely flipped upside down over these past couple of years with Covid, and those industries especially are showing little to no signs of recovery. Which has caused a lot of unrest and anxiety, and fear about peoples futures. And I think, at the very least, Web3 can be a part of the solution. ⠀
⠀
Because Web3 is a platform that FINALLY favors creatives and entrepreneurs. Those who are actively building our experience of the future. ⠀

Michael Brown and I met 4 months ago at the Boulder International Film Fest, where he introduced my film Between Giants. After that screening, we stayed up with other filmmakers and explorers until 3:00 am discussing far off lands and desolate places. After that evening, I knew I needed to have Michael on my podcast, so here we are. ⠀
⠀
Bio:⠀
Michael has excelled as both an adventure athlete and as a filmmaker. He has been to the summit of Mount Everest five times, each time with cameras rolling. His work as a director and cinematographer spans all seven continents and has won many film festivals and industry awards, including three national Emmy Awards. ⠀
⠀
Michael's lens has captured ice caves for NOVA, tornadoes for Discovery, science at the South Pole for National Geographic, avalanches for the BBC, and mountain climbing for four giant screen IMAX movies. Michael has made a habit of going to the world's harshest, most dangerous environments and always comes back with incredible footage and compelling stories. Outside Magazine describes the cerebral filmmaker as a "swashbuckling librarian," and Men's Journal calls him "a master of gut-dropping action." ⠀
⠀
Topics include:⠀
⠀
-Working with Erik Weihenmayer, a blind man who summited Everest and kayaked the Grand Canyon⠀
-Working towards the impossible⠀
-How to tell better stories⠀
-Good risks vs. bad risks⠀

Oh the tables have turned! In this interview I'm the one getting asked questions by Bob Murphy from The Grove Center.
The Grove Center helps "artists to put their work in the public sphere." And they were kind enough to give us a grant for our film Between Giants, along with facilitate this conversation.
Many of Bob's questions are centered around the film I Directed, Produced and Edited called Between Giants. Which is based on a two month bicycle trip I did in the Himalayas with my friend David 4 years ago. A film David would go on to score.
A few topics discussed include:
I have not heard back from the religious leaders I contacted about my fear and faith mini-series I recently started, so in the meantime, I thought I’d publish this conversation.
But, if you know any faith leaders who may be interested in discussing their faiths relationship to fear, please let me know through a message on Instagram @choosingfearless.

To start Season 2 I'm hanging out with pastor and author Todd Rodarmel who has a refreshing view on faith . He's far more interested in the life and teaching of Jesus than the religious trappings that often smother faith.
What ever your faith preference, I think you'll find this mini-series I start here at the beginning of Season 2 on faith and fear both interesting and helpful.

My guest today is a wildly successful entrepreneur, who is an incredibly generous, humble and wise individual. That person is John Snyder, my mentor.
If I were to pick the top 3 most influential people in my life over the last 10 years, John would be in the mix. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to absorb truck loads of wisdom from John over the years during the many meals we’ve enjoyed together.
To say John is good at starting and growing companies, is like saying Michael Jordan is good at basketball. It really couldn’t be anymore of an understatement.
In this episode we dive into mentorship, leadership, and entrepreneurship, including John selling his insurance company to AIG, which was valued at over $160 million dollars.
