Chord Progression Podcast: The Gateway to New Rock and Metal Music

We live in a world in 2025 that consists of many things that might not be the best for our own self worth. Social media is only showing us the highlights of other people's lives, and we compare ourselves to that. We are pressured to "keep up with the Jones's" and follow along with the crowd in terms of style and tastes.

That is why it is more imporant to find yourself, fall in love with who you are, and be yourself unapologetically. Music always brings that message to us, and this artist not only is doing that with her music, but is living it every step of the way.

French rocker Lucie Sue joins the Chord Progression Poodcast today. With her new album, Battle Station, set to come out on August 29th, we dive deep into the album and to the artists by discussing:

- What led Lucie Sue back to music after having a family life that consisted of nothing but work, work, and more work.

- The creation of her new album, Battle Station, and why it focuses so heavily on the topic of being yourself and falling in love with that person.

- Why Lucie Sue struggles to appreciate the moment when wanting to keep achieving goals, and what we can learn from that.

A gerat episode with an artist that you might not know. So tap that subscribe button because more artists like this are coming.

If you were ever laid up in a hospital bed, seeing people with the same condition as you never leaving, what would that do to your will to fight? Would it inspire you to keep going, or would it make you want to throw in the towel? And if you made it out, how would you treat the rest of your life?

For one musician, he lived this exact scenario over the past few years, going from hospital bed to being unsure if he would make it. But a mantra of "I've Felt Better" kept him driving to not only get better, but to see life as one of getting people excited to hear his music and just be proud of who he is, positively impacting the people he loves. And that, is winning life.

Matt from the Britist post-hardcore, alt rock band Dinosaur Pile-Up joins the Chord Progresion Podcast with the new album, I've Felt Better, due out on August 22nd. Get ready for it as on this episode, we dive deep into:

- Matt's story of being laid up in a hospital for years to succeeding in health, and learning that the imporant thing in life is bettering the lives of the people you love and the people that you can touch in life.

- The reaction from fans given on the new music, as well as a deep dive into "My Way" which might be the most inventive song written in the past 5 years.

- A selection of non-singles on this album that Matt thinks you should be sure to listen to on release day.

A quick episode but one that will get you excited for this new album. Check it out and be ready for more by tapping the subscribe button.

10 years is a long time being in a band and trying to make it in the music industry. It is something that very few people achieve, and even fewer succeed in. And for an artist that succeeds in that endeavour and onto album 6, what goes through their minds?

Are they thinking of the next step and wanting more? Are they thinking it is good enough? Are they keeping things in perspective to their wants and goals, while enjoying the ride along the way? The answer to that is the last, and it brings an album with the best features, and an expanded sound towards the end.

Bobby from the deathcore band Sings Of The Swarm joins the Chord Progression Podcast today. With the bands 6th album "To Rid Myself of Truth" releasing on August 22nd, dive deep into the band and album with us. On this episode, we talk about:

- Reflecting on 10+ years of Sign of the Swarm, how they keep the line between over-ambition and enjoying their success, and why they still enjoy the ride like they did when they were kids.

- Why streaming numbers distort a band's impact on the music scene, and why the live show attendence & participation is the key success barometer for a band.

- The new album "To Rid Myself of Truth," how it expands the bands sound towards the end of the album, and the incredible features from Whitechapel and 156/Silence.

Keeping it heavy, but keeping it great. Hit that subscribe button for more of this each and every week.

Who would have thought that after over 13 years since their last album and breakup, that Woe Is Me would be back together as a band, but releasing a full length album? Certainly not the band. But you would be surprised just how much can change over time.

Now there is a new album ready to be released, and a more enhanced sound to come. But what does that sound consist of? And how has the band evolved as songwriters over the last decade plus? Well, we aim to answer that for you right here.

Michael and Hance from Woe, Is Me come to the Chord Progression Podcast today with the release of their long awaited 3rd album, Daybreak, ready to be released on August 22nd. Get the best preview ever of the album right here as we deep dive into:

- How releasing a brand new album after 12 years and a breakup is surreal to the band, and what getting together again to create the next era of Woe, Is Me was like.

- The song Devil In My Mind, its country tie in, and why it just scratches the surface of what the band did on this album, including a look into the songs yet to be released that show the massive range of Woe, Is Me.

- What the band is doing to already create more new music beyond Daybreak. Yes, we said more new music.

We have been waiting for this one for years and now we get to bring it to you. Plenty more great episodes are on the way so hit the subscribe button to not miss out on anything new.

A special episode is here with our 3rd band to be featured on the Chord Progression Podcast for a 5th time. From their first time on the podcast all the way during the pandemic till now, being able to watch them grow into a great band and even greater people has been our pleasure, and we hope it has been yours too.

So what do we have for you on this band's 5th episode with us? A great number of stories to share from the life of a growing band? A recap of what has been happening to the band and why you should be following them if you arent? A look at some new music and their growth as musicians and creatives? All of the above? Yes, all of the above.

Our friends in the Houston rock band RoZY return to the Chord Progression Podcast for the 5th time, and with their newest EP, Welcome to the Show, due to release on August 22nd. Join us for a celebration of RoZY as we talk about:

- One of their most intense stories of how Zoe broke her pinky on their bus during a recording session, and how the ordeal brought the band together.

- Their experience touring more often, how fans outside of the Texas area have been taking to RoZY, and when they will be making their debut in the northern half of the USA.

- The new EP "Welcome to the Show," how the band grew instrumentally on 'In The Middle,' and how they created a rebel rock anthem using Zoe's increased power as a vocalist on 'Sweetheart.'

What is reggaecore? Is it hardcore reggae music? Is it a blend of reggae music and heavier musical styings like metalcore? And what can a blend of those types of styles do in order to come together and create some beautiful new heavy music in today's world?

We found out the answer to that is yes, and the way we found it out is by being open minded to all of the experimentation that is coming through in heavy music today, to find the perfect blend of a sound that makes you "aggressively happy" and we are here today, to present it to you.

Nathan from the reggaecore band Aurorawave joins the Chord Progression Podcast today with the band's second album, Monument, releasing on August 15th. Discover a brand new sound with this episode as we talk about:

- The invention of reggaecore, where the sound came from, and why its explorative style is being welcomed by so many people in the heavy music scene.

- What to expect on Monument as a preview of the whole album, including a dissection of the use of features from bands like Atreyu, Left to Suffer, and even Ekoh.

- Why Aurorawave can be seen as a gateway band for so many people today, and how couples are discovering a commonality in their music tastes with Aurorawave.

We discovered a new sound, and always want to share it with you. Tap the subscribe button as we find more and more of these sounds for you.

Supporting local artists and emerging artists in the music world is one of the most important things we can do as fans to propel the best bands around us to where we want to see them go, and create a community of support and growth. We always advocate for that here.

So when we saw a pop punk artist shoot a promo video on the marooned Deep Thought or "Milwaukee Minnow" with music that pops, we knew what our mission was. Bring this band to the podcast, show you who they are, and fully support the local scene to our home of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

That is why Betty from the Milwaukee pop punk group Gold Steps joins the podcast today. With a great bounce to their music overall, we take supporting our local scene to the next level by bringing on such a great band. On this episode, we discuss:

- The origins of Gold Steps, their strong ties to the Milwaukee music scene, a snapshot of the scene in general, as well as the importance of supporting musicians in your area.

- Recording a promo video on the "Milwaukee Minnow," what it did for the band, & the importance of having fun with your music (it doesn't have to be serious all the time).

- "Rent Free" as a track from its personal message of letting things go after a situation has passed, and the up beat, summer, cheer vibe to the song with shades of inspiration from Olivia Rodrigo.

A great band for you to check out, local to us here in Milwaukee. We do this with artists all around the world so tap subscribe to not miss out.

In the heavy music scene of 2025, we are seeing so many bands doing creative things with their music. Sleep Token is bringing an intense aura to metal. Electric Callboy is turning heavy music into a party. Ice Nine Kills brings horror to life with their style of metal. So let's find another great thing.

4 years ago, we met a band that was blending an intense love and passion for synthwave into their style of metalcore. Now, not only have they expanded their idea of synthwave mixed with metal in that time, but they have incorporated the saxaphone to make their brand of "wave core" have a sultry, sexy sound. And with a new album coming out to show it, we need to show it to you too.

The guys from Dreamwake join the Chord Progression Podcast for the first time in 4 years with their brand new album, The Lost Years, releasing on August 8th, we want you to get into this increible smooth brand of heavy music. On this episode, we dive deep into:

- How Dreamwake added the saxophone to their blend of synthwave & metalcore, while doing it tastefully so it would not become a gimmick in their music.

- Why 'The Lost Years' explores the topic of nostalgia for your childhood and remembering what it was like to not have any worry in the world, and how we should still connect and relate to that time today.

- Each and every song that has not been released as a single, bringing you the ultimate preview of 'The Lost Years'

A smooth episode with wavecore band, and a not-so-smooth moment during the recording that will make you enjoy the episode even more. Tap the subscribe button as more bands like this are coming your way.

Kevin's FInal Thought; Such A Tasteful Addition

When a new band hits the music scene and is about to release their first full length record, one fo the best ways to measure & predict how things will go for them is how their music resonates with the live crowd that has yet to know them. Are they going to be a band that takes the crowd by storm? Or are they going to be forgotten about?

Well when you play a show outside your home country and people are in the front row singing every word to every song, you know you have something. When people at a show in your home country are moshing like crazy during the intro to your set, yeah, you are on the right track.

Tino and Valentin from the German metalcore band ACCVSED come to the Chord Progression Podcast. With their debut album, Dealers of Doom, relesing on August 1st, we get you into the band that is already winning fans over as the opening act. On this episode, we go over:

- The thematic focus of Dealers of Doom, and how Valentin writes about his personal issues in a way that everyone can relate to the intense topics thorughout their own lives.

- How ACCVSED used this album to create a heavier sound that resonates with so many fans both recorded and in a live setting, as well as the shift they made on the song Make Sure It Hurts.

- ACCVSED using 2 styles of unclean vocals to produce a more dynamic power on their heavier songs, and why they will continue to explore that going forward.

This is a great new heavy band for you to get into like so many European fans who get to see them live. Tap the subscribe button to not miss out on another.

Kevin's Final Thought; Art, Artist, & Song Connection Beauty

It is no shock that hardcore music is having a moment right now. From the massive blow up in pop culture of Knocked Loose, the incredible rise of Kublai Khan, Alpha Wolf, and thrown, as well as the experimental flow of Mugshot and Thoratcut, we are in the golden age. Therefore, how will the golden age continue? With innovation and creativity in a sound that has so much room for growth.

And yes, there is a band that did that in hardcore in 2025 by bringing in so much more nu metal flare into hardcore, just becasue it is what they found cool. So what was the outcome of this idea and feel? Well, hardcore album of the year 2025 is the answer.

Zach from the Denver hardcore band Fox Lake is on the Chord Progression Podcast today. With their new album, New World Heat, dropping on August 1st for your listening pleasure, we dive into the album in 30 minutes or less to get you ready for the ahrdcore album of the year. Join us as we talk about:

- Why 'new World Heat' was written based off of a feeling that the band was having during the creation process, of them just going with what they thought was cool at the time.

- The hardcore and nu metalcore mix that is shown in Fox Lake sound, creating the 'nu hardcore' subgenre for themselves.

- How hardcore music is connected to the weight lifting community, and the reason behind Fox Lake loving that connection.

Let's get heavy and full into the hardcore sound that is sweeping the heavy music scene. Tap the subscribe button because we keep it coming.
