Chord Progression Podcast: The Gateway to New Rock and Metal Music

As we close out the first half of the 2020's, it is clear that rock and metal are back on the rise as bands creating authentic music like Bad Omens, Sleep Token, and The Warning. More people are heading out to shows and checking out the new bands because of the inspiration that this time period is creating.

This band is planning on capitalizing on that with a more experimental metalcore sound that will make them break through the saturation of sound in the metal scene. And this is all done while creating an EP that hits on that sonically, but also connects to those listening all around the concept of a deep loss.

Evan from the Los Angeles metalcore band Thrown Into Exile joins the Chord Progression Podcast. The new EP, Passageways, is available now and we dive into what has made this EP by talking about:

• Releasing new music in metal in a time when pop culture is taking more and more of an interest in the rock and metal genres as time goes on.
• Evan's return to Thrown Into Excile, and music as well, after 6 years, and its importance to the personal journey we all go through recapturing our love for something.
• A deep dive into the new EP, Passageways, from the focus on a dynamic metalcore approach, to the deep emotional connection lyrically based on the final days before losing a loved one.

This got deep and powerful quickly, with the dynamics that is making metal great. Hit the subscribe button to discover more that is coming from the Chord Progression Podcast.

It is human nature to fear death. Death is the ultimate end to life as we are aware of it. And because of that, along with human nature having us focus on the negative, we tend to miss out on many of the positives life has to offer.

Music is one of those things we have that can help us relate to death to find the positivity in life. The melodies, the lyrics, the flow, help us all connect to the beatuy in life, when faced with the end. And that alone can inspire us.

David and Matt from the band Stoneside join us on the Chord Progression Podcast today. Diving deep is on the agenda when it comes to life and music as we discuss:

• The moments that led Stoneside to music, with a stress on the importance of finding your life's passion in your own way.
• Why Stoneside writes about death to find the beauty in life, and how it comes from their deep, personal experiences.
• An importance of not living your life be dictated by the will of others, and why life can't be lived while sitting behind a desk.

Getting deep is on the agenda for this episode. Get into more of these episodes by hitting that subscribe button.

There is a quote out there that says "good things take time, but great things happen all at once." This quote always rung true to us, but when meeting this band and bringing them to you, it continued to show its truth.

From an origin story that starts all the way back to Rockfest 2023, to signing a record deal less than a year into their existance, and a wilingness to create the most chaotic moments on stage, it is true that great things happen all at once.

The guys from the Minneapolis-based post hardcore band Impossible Prom Kings join the Chord Progression Podcast. Discover this great new band and see that great things happen all at once as we talk about:

• How the band formed because of a cigarette at Rockfest 2023, and why their orgin story is of a bunch of misfits coming together.
• Signing a record deal with Ghost Killer Entertainment in under a year of being a band, and why they were signed.
• The Dopamine enducing live shows, and the crazy ideas that we come up with to amplify them in the moment.
• What to expect on the debut EP from the band releasing in 2025.

Great things happen all at once, and that can be true for you as you hit that subscribe button.

It is not surprising to hear a story about anyone in a creative space having to deal with adversity and roadblocks in order to acheive their dreams. They inspire us to keep going, energize us to know that it is worth it, and invigorate our creative spirit.

But what if that story includes getting dropped by a major record label in less than a year, going through the legal process to get the rights to your music back, dropped by your management because you didnt make them enough during a worldwide pandemic, and classified as "damaged goods"? Now that is a band you want to get behind.

Steph and Paul from the Irish Emo band Greywind join the Chord Progression Podcast today, on the heels of the rerelease of their debut album Afterthoughts to give it the proper release. On this episode, join us for an insane half hour talking about:

• The insane origin story of Greywind and how it is one that would have made so many others quit (yes, we summarized the story, but there is so much more).
• Rereleasing the debut album Afterthoughts and the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people for your goals.
• Why fans are connecting to the authenticity of their emo sound with songs that relate to everyone's life in some capacity.

We have to have these 2 back for the full story. Be sure to subcsribe because they will be back soon.

Every year in the rock and metal world, we all find that one band that we were not expecting to see, come out of nowhere and start to truly make a name for themselves. It is done through hard work, and moments that make you never forget them.

This is one of those bands as we found out about them at a random show, only to see them get signed to a great record label, and go viral before 2024 ended. With 2025 on the horizon, this band is poised to explode.

The dual frontwomen tandem of Lizzie and Liv from Not Enough Space join the Chord Progression Podcast today. To recap a great 2024 and preview an even more explosive 2025, join us as we discuss:

• The emergence of Not Enough Space into metal culture in 2024, from fans reacting to a band with 2 frontwomen, signing with Thriller Records, and going viral.
• Writing a brand new album while freely expandning their sound and pushing the boundaries of what they think their music can be, putting new music on Album of the Year watch.
• Releasing the single Primitive, going viral, and creating "moancore"

Getting a chance to get into great bands before they make it huge don't come around often. We provide those chances all the time. So tap subscribe to not miss out on any furhter bands.

We love it when a band comes together to create great music. But what happens when that band that comes together has members of other high profile bands to share their talents with the world even more? That is when we get a great supergroup.

Not only do we get a chance today to see how this Avengers-like ensemble came together, but a further in-detph look at how they create music for a project like this. Add in an unfiltered look at the current state of touring for fans to understand the economics of why ticket prices are rising, and you are in for one hell of an episode.

Chris Kelly from Hillhaven joins the Chord Progression Podacst. With Hillhaven members having ties to bands like BabyMetal (allegedly), From Ashes To New, Ice Nine Kills, and more, discover this supergroup as we dive into:

• The origin story from uncertainty on what to do with previously written music, and why this "supergroup" was the way to go.
• Why the music creation process for Hillhaven is more for Chris to lead, how most songs take a darker and more personal approach, but why the new song This Time Tomorrow looks at a more positive outlook.
• The unfiltered reality that is touring today, why things are getting more expensive, and a reality check for fans wondering why ticket prices have been going up.

We could not have asked from a better episode from Chris, and other members of this band (Mat Madiro of From Ashes To New and Ricky Armellino of Ice Nine Kills) have appeared on the podcast before. What if we told you there is a band out there that is combining metalcore, hardcore, electronica, synthwave, and 80's hair metal all at once? Sounds like it would be a mess and could be a little too much right?

Now what if we told you that there is not only a band that exists like that, but their blend of sound makes for an album of the year candidate, and with an energy that could be matched with bands like Electric Callboy and BabyMetal?

Leevi from One Morning Left Joins the Chord Progression Podcast today! With the band having released the new album Neon Inferno back in October, discover the band and the album with us as we talk about:

• Covering Beat It by Michael Jackson in their style, and why it is the perfect introduction to the band for anyone.
• A focus on expanding the pallet of sound One Morning Left has created with the release of Neon Inferno.
• The story behind Tokyo Love, and why its real world inspiration has led it to be a song of the year candidate for 2024.

If you have never heard of this band and want something that will put a smile on your face, but heavy, this is it. More artists like this can be found on the Chord Progression Podcast, so hit that subscribe button and find out about every one.

The term "no-skip album" is not a term that gets thrown around lightly in the music industry. It is reserved for those albums in which every song has to stand out, needs to have its own unique, yet cohesive, feel to it, and easily be an album of the year candidate. Yet, we are throwing that term around for this band today.

From bringing on a new lead singer since their last album, being locked in a Michigan AirBnb to write this record, and allowing creativity to flow while being guided by Landon Tewers of The Plot in You, this band achived a no-skip album.

Jaali from the metalcore band Until I Wake joins the Chord Progression Podcast, as we are on the heels of the release of the band's no-skip album Renovate. Join us on this episode of greatness as we discuss:

• How Jaali joined the band 9 days before going out on tour to support Imminence, and how seriously he took to improving his clean vocals following his first time playing live with Until I Wake.
• Writing Renovate with Landon Towers, and how the writing processed allowed each member to maximize their own style in both an individual and collaborative way.
• The songs that both Jaali and Kevin are suggesting you check out on Renovate, a 2024 Album of the Year candidate.

Easily one of the best albums we have heard all year, and a great conversation to add to it. Don't miss out on discovering great new bands, or enjoying an in-depth look at the bands you already love. Hit subscribe and become part of the family.

Over the course of recent modern history, the human relationship has massively changed. Gone is a focus on in-person interaction in favor of digital connection, and confrontation seems to be more avoided than ever before, even when it is necessary.

But what is the impact of this overall on us, and why is it up to artists to help shed light on the issue in order to inspire societal change? Well the Renaissance changed the way we thought and acted, maybe this can be the start of it again.

Vicky and Robby from the dynamic metal band SickSense join the Chord Progression Podcast with their newest album, Cross Me Twice, ready to release on Valentines Day 2025. Join us for a conversation around the new album as we discuss:

• How SickSense approached their writing headspace for this album, and if a drastic change in location impacted the creative process.
• The balance needed in human relationships and the focus of understanding them & speaking up presented in Cross Me Twice.
• Connecting to your audience in a more impactful way, and how that can further influence you going forward.
