Rebs was really coming out with the theories this episode. This time round we had no choice but to speak about Drake's highly anticipated new album 'Certified Lover Boy' along with much of the controversy surrounding him, this album and other artists related to him. Although 'CLB' took most of the week up, we also covered other releases from that week such as Little Simz, Belly, Fee Gonzales plus more!
If you don’t know why Episode 6 is called “It’s Not Okay” you will know why once you’ve listened. This week was a big week in hip hop as one of the heavy-hitters dropped their album. We dive into Kanye’s album “DONDA” and share our opinions on it despite us not being the hugest fans of Gospel music. We got into new music video’s from the likes of Headie One, Meek Mill, Isaiah Rashad and Bobby Shmurda. Baby Keem released a single featuring his troublesome cousin Kendrick Lamar entitled “family ties”. Rebel also introduced a couple of international artists Sumpa & Tayc to Andre and Slim.
During the time we recorded this episode all that was being spoken about was Drake and Kanye West and the hype that is going on around them. We took a rest from those two this week as we knew once they dropped their albums that's all we’d be talking about in future episodes. Firstly, we mentioned Mac Miller (RIP) as he was a feature on DVSN & Ty Dolla $ign newly released project ‘Cheers To The Best Memories’. We got into more R&B as we spoke about James Blake’s upcoming album, Cleo Sol’s project called “Mother” and went on to Shaybo’s new mixape named “Queen Of The South”.
All we seem to hear these days is about people getting their flowers while they’re here and it would seem like that’s all we did this episode. We took a trip back in time the day before we recorded this episode whereby Rebel made Andre watch what is arguably a classic DVD series (Risky Roadz). Naturally we got into revisiting a lot of artists/emcees from that era. We got into Manga Saint Hilare’s recent release “Glow In The Dark” which sparked some good conversations about the Grime scene and it’s position in UK Music today.
Here in the UK we were blessed by Dave who served his latest offering "We're All Alone In This Together" which we covered thoroughly. A lengthy conversation about the common narrative pushed about substance in music and the availability of it. What we're sure comes as no surprise...the inevitable discussion around some of the UK GOATS was had to some extent so you're set for an enjoyable episode.
We were happy with our pilot episode (despite several hiccups) so we decided we were coming back for more. This time round we had no choice but to cover Santandave's 'Clash' single featuring Stormzy along with the controversy surrounding him and Chip. As promised we also covered other releases from that week.
After nearly a year of planning, plotting and scheming we finally got round to recording/filming our pilot episode of Chords & Chorus'. Naturally on our first episode we're giving everyone a feel for what our podcast will cover moving forward. We'd love to share more of what we discussed but you'll just have to listen to find out!.
