In this episode I use the GarageBand app to quickly record some of my thoughts about inflation and the book of Isaiah. Please excuse the less-than-optimal recording quality. We discuss Thomas Sowell’s ‘Basic Economics’ and look at how the prophet Isaiah talks about inflation as evidence of Israel’s unfaithfulness while in exile. How does this relate to our coronavirus stimulus checks?

He has taught literature, history, writing, and theology at Greyfriars Classical Academy for six years and has recently been hired as a Professor of Moral Philosophy at New College Franklin in Franklin, TN.

This episode is a continuation of episode three on eschatology. We discuss popular misconceptions that lead to apocalyptic end-times readings of scripture. The methodology by which you study scripture should be consistent with the genre of the book/letter. Everything we see in Scripture should be interpreted using precedents set in other parts of the scriptures (interpret scripture with scripture). We don’t use newspaper headlines to interpret scripture. Blood moons, wars and rumors of wars, evil emperors, earthquakes, 70 A.D. This was a fun episode. The future is looking bright.

We explore the idea of thorns in the narrative of scripture and the role of the foretold conquering King. History is one of hope, not of pessimism. And the atonement of the King has application for everything that we do - including economics and the marketplace.

We go through a couple of examples of objections to using the Bible as our standard and we discuss how everyone has a worldview. Is what you say about reality consistent with the way you live and interact in the world?

 

This framework, which we call the presuppositional approach, directly applies to business and economics. We talk through a couple of ways that self-proclaimed secularist people and businesses assume a Biblical worldview even though they reject it with what they say.

 

And yes, I ask a police officer how the Bible applies to his job as an enforcer of the law.
