Chill. It's that attitude that says, it's all good, I don't mind, do whatever you like. Chill seems to be a way to avoid fights and avoid being a jerk. But it's also a way to avoid real relationships and it's a terrible substitute for love. In this sermon, Phil considers how love requires us to give up being chill and instead have an opinion, embrace healthy conflict and put up boundaries - all for the sake of our brothers and sisters.

Living a life of freedom, where you are forced to trust God for your sense of self, your worth, and your future can be exhilarating. Like that first time riding a bike without training wheels, it's a rush. But, if you're not familiar with that feeling, you instinctively hit the brakes and put your feet out. 

Sometimes, people come along and offer us deals, techniques, rules to follow, or tribes to join that promise to put us in control of our spiritual lives. But as Phil reflects on in this sermon, so often, these deals sideline Jesus, and cost us our freedom.

Have you ever received one of those URGENT!!!! emails? If Galatians were written today, it may well have had all the punctuation!!, ALL-CAPS, bolding, and underlining of this kind of email. But why? What is the problem? Why is the apostle Paul so worked up? In this message, Laura gets to the root of the issue: to change the gospel is to end up with a two-tier church, which undermines the very point of the gospel.

We all want to change things about ourselves. Our habits, our negative emotions, and behaviours we realise are hurting us and others. But how? If you've been trying for a while and getting nowhere, it's easy to feel stuck. For people who love Jesus, that feeling can be mixed with anxiety, or even doubt - "I thought the Holy Spirit was supposed to work on me". When we feel stuck, we may think that what we need is more elbow grease, grit and determination. But the gospel tells us something better. In this sermon, Phil explains that to get unstuck, we need more time in the desert.
