EXODUS 2:15
The Pharaoh tried to kill Moses (abortion, Pharaoh, God Himself).

Midian means strife. God uses strife to motivate us to seek Him and His will.



Micah 2:10
 Arise and go, for this is no place of rest because of the uncleanness that brings on destruction, a painful destruction.”

EXODUS 2:16-17 
Moses waters the flock of Reuel. There is healing when we start acting out our name, cf., the one “drawn from the water” draws water. God is preparing Moses for the greatest mission of his life. The theme of water and obedience to God will be featured again and again in Exodus.

TESTING: Watering a small flock is preparation for watering a nation.
Moses began to do small things the right thing at the right time for the right reasons.

EXODUS 2:18 
Reuel (the friend of God) invites Moses to share a meal. There is healing when we start sharing meals with the “friends of God.” Do not sit at the table of the enemies of God. Do not sit at a table Jesus would turn over. Seek out the friends of God.

You shall not follow the crowd in doing evil…

Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”

EXODUS 2:21-22

Reuel gives Zipporah (bird) to Moses in marriage. Moses names his first-born son Gershom (the foreigner).

EXODUS 2:23-25

God hears and sees the suffering of Israel. God remembers His covenant with Abraham. Sometimes when we are in our most intense suffering, we believe God has forsaken us. The opposite is true.




God is preparing a man and a nation to become His people.

Suffering gets their attention.

God always hears and always sees.
