Bishop Paul reminds us that our confidence in inviting others to know Jesus can only be as strong as our confidence in Jesus himself. When the first disciples ask, “Where are you staying?” Jesus responds, “Come and see,” inviting them to examine, witness, and discover for themselves a life unlike any other. May we follow the example of Jesus and introduce a hurting world to him through the simple invitation to “come and see.”

Bishop Paul Donison invites us to consider why Jesus was baptized. In the waters of the Jordan, he declares his intention to stand fully with humanity. Though sinless, Jesus enters the water with sinners as both servant and beloved Son, cleansing the waters for our sake and revealing divine humility to the miracle no one expected. His baptism teaches us to remember our own—that we are beloved children, sent into the world to stand with others, just as Jesus did from the Jordan to the cross.

The Magi were unlikely worshipers of Jesus whose attention to a sign awakened a deeper longing for truth. Their story shows us that moments of wonder—those times when we sense there’s something more—are invitations to seek, not conclusions in themselves. Like the Magi, our signs must lead us to the Scriptures, where faith is formed and Christ is revealed. There, we are brought not just to understanding, but to a personal encounter with Jesus.

Bishop Paul Donison reminds us that the most important resolution we can make in 2026 is not to forget our name. On January 1, the Feast of the Naming of Jesus, we commemorate the moment Jesus received his name. This helps us to remember the name given to us as those who bear his name in the world. The first people to receive the name Christians—little Christs—were the believers at Antioch. Like them, we are shaped by this name we carry.

In this Christmas Eve sermon, Bishop Paul Donison asks the question, “Why are the shepherds here?” and helps us see the meaning behind their unlikely presence. In the ancient world, shepherds were seen as low-class and untrusted, yet Scripture promised that the coming king would arrive as a shepherd to care for his people. The child Jesus in the manger fulfills that promise, coming to be with us, to watch over us, and to demonstrate that he wants us.

When the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph, he offered good news and an invitation to say yes. If we can understand why Joseph said yes to Jesus’ entering his life, then we can learn to say yes to Jesus’ entering our lives. The Lord is sovereignly coming into our lives to save us, and he’s entering to stay.

On this third Sunday in Advent, Bishop Paul Donison teaches on what it means to wait well. Seasons of waiting are for our good. What we need to wait well is to remember the good news about waiting: that God knows, that he shows us his mercy, and that he grows us in the waiting. May our seasons of waiting make space for God’s deep work of renovation and reformation in us. 

On this first Sunday in Advent, Canon Jonathan teaches how Advent forms us into people who will wait, prepare, and watch for Jesus’ coming. As followers of Jesus, we will face hard times. We must resist false hopes and false messiahs and instead focus our attention and hope on Jesus, the one who will return and make all things right.

What does it mean to recognize and receive Christ as King? On this last Sunday after Pentecost, Canon Jonathan reminds us why it matters so deeply. Only the reign of Jesus can anchor our hope and provide a way forward in a world filled with leaders who often misuse their power and harm the vulnerable. Many in Jesus’ day misunderstood him, because they couldn’t imagine a king who wouldn’t use his power to save himself. But some saw him clearly. Like the thief on the cross, the humble recognize their need and receive Christ the King as he is.

In this final installment of the sermon series Jesus’ Bride, Bishop Paul preaches on the reality of our communion with God. In a society plagued by deep loneliness, Jesus offers the answer through his church: a new kind of knowing and being known, a new kind of union with God that we call communion. We practice it every Sunday when we come to Jesus’ Table. This communion with God is both a gift and a gathering of others into enjoying that gift—because our joy in the gift is not complete until it is shared. This is what it means to be the church.
