Christ Community Church of Magnolia Sermons

Have you ever felt the sting of rejection or someone not accepting you? No matter how strong you are, that stings. Ever felt the sting of rejection or marginalization because of your faith in Christ? Today, Jesus reminds His disciples that they will be hated because of him. So, why do people hate Jesus and His followers? How should we respond? Jesus answers both those questions in today’s text!

How will fearful disciples fare with Jesus leaving? Jesus encouraged their troubled hearts by promising a future inheritance in heaven & the Help of the Holy Spirit. If that weren’t enough, today Jesus paints an amazing picture of his abiding presence and power as they bear witness to Him. Let’s be reminded of the true power source that sustains our lives in Christ!

When we think about the Christian life, what actually empowers us to live it out? In today's passage, Jesus prepares His disciples for His departure by promising the Holy Spirit—the Helper who will dwell within them, teach them, and strengthen them to walk in obedience. What does it mean to live by the power of the Spirit, and how does He shape the way we follow Jesus today?

When we face difficult goodbyes in life, how do we respond? Jesus told his disciples he was leaving, and you can sense the fear and confusion they felt. He answered by reminding them of his promises and urging them to trust him. What are these promises, and how can remembering them help us as Jesus’ followers today?

The most dangerous kind of enemy is the enemy within. The enemy you can’t see & don’t expect. Many a nation, community, & personal friendship has been undermined by betrayal. Today, we see the traitor within Jesus’ circle exposed. What effect does this have on Jesus? Disciples? The traitor himself? Much to learn from the dark pages in God’s Word this morning!

As Jesus draws closer & closer to the cross, what is His message to his disciples? What lasting instructions will he give the leaders of the Christian faith beyond the cross? How might this be instructive to disciples of Jesus today? Come, let’s open God’s word and revisit the call of a disciple of Jesus then and today!

Why do people reject the light in the face of overwhelming evidence? Getting to the root of unbelief is always a matter of the heart. We see the Jesus that we seek.

Good news is often hard to come by in our world. Every time we turn on the news, it’s bad news. Every time things are going well in our lives, more bad news comes. This Easter Sunday, we are reminded of the “good news” that transcends all the bad news. We are reminded that He is Risen! And this news changes our today & all our days ahead!

Expectations can be healthy or damaging. It depends on whether both parties are on the

same page. In Jesus' day, Israel expected a Messiah to deliver God’s people. Jesus came

to do that, but not in the way people expected. Today, we must ask if our expectations of

King Jesus align with His mission and purpose. Let’s open God’s Word to see Jesus'

mission & how we fit into it.
