Then Jesus said to all of them, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me. — Luke 9:23

Following Jesus has a cost, and he never hid it: deny yourself, take up your cross daily, and follow me—the world will hate you, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. But here's what sustains us: we're not our own, we're bought with a price, and the cross of Christ makes self-denial not just possible but joyful. We know the one we follow, and we know where he's taking us.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. — Galatians 5:22,23

Meekness isn't weakness—it's power under control, the fruit of the spirit. Look at Christ: he could have called ten thousand angels, yet he did not open his mouth; the meek inherit the earth because they've learned from the one who is gentle and lowly in heart. This isn't natural to us—it's supernatural, worked in us by the spirit.

Beforehand, he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. ‘Conduct business with this until I return,’ he said. — Luke 19:13

He entrusts each of us with gifts, time, and the Gospel and expects fruit. The day is short and the night comes when no man can work, so we’d better be about our Father’s business. Don’t grow weary—your labor in the Lord isn’t in vain, and the fire will test every man’s work on that day.

Again, the gift is not like the result of the one man’s sin: The judgment that followed one sin brought condemnation, but the gift that followed many trespasses brought justification. — Romans 5:16

Here's the good news: where sin abounded, grace abounded much more—the free gift isn't like the trespass, because Adam's one sin brought condemnation but Christ's one act of righteousness brings justification for many. God doesn't just forgive; He washes, justifies, sanctifies, making scarlet sins white as snow. That's not something you earn—it's a gift, received by faith.

When the Israelites saw it, they asked one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. So Moses told them, “It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat. — Exodus 16:15

When Israel saw manna in the wilderness, they didn't know what it was—a bread from heaven, given by God's hand alone—but it was a shadow of the true bread: Jesus Christ, who came down from heaven to give life to the world. The mystery of the incarnation, God made flesh, is the great provision for hungry souls. Don't labor for bread that perishes; come to Christ and be filled.

As soon as the king saw Queen Esther standing in the court, she found favor in his sight. The king extended the gold scepter in his hand toward Esther, and she approached and touched the tip of the scepter. — Esther 5:2

Esther approached the king's throne trembling, and he held out the golden scepter—a picture of what we have in Christ: bold access to the throne of grace. Because Jesus opened the way through His blood, we don't come crawling in fear but with full assurance; perfect love casts out fear. The King of kings welcomes every one of His children, so come boldly—the scepter is extended.

I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. — Psalm 4:8

You can close your eyes at night without fear because the Lord Himself keeps you safe. He who neither slumbers nor sleeps watches over you, and nothing can pluck you from His hand; even the darkest midnight is as light to Him, and He covers you with His feathers. So rest, child of God—you belong to Christ, and the One who holds the universe holds you too.

Whoever heeds instruction will find success, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD. — Proverbs 16:20

Happy isn't a feeling you manufacture—it's what happens when you trust the Lord. Abraham believed God when there was no human reason to hope, and that's the pattern for every believer; when you lean on the Lord instead of yourself, He holds you up and proves Himself your refuge in trouble. The man who trusts God isn't foolish—he's the wisest man alive.

Out of the ground the LORD God gave growth to every tree that is pleasing to the eye and good for food. And in the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. — Genesis 2:9

Before sin entered the world, God planted the tree of life in Eden, a sign that eternal life is His gift—and it points straight to Christ, who is that life and who died so we could live. What Adam lost, the last Adam restores; in the new creation the tree of life grows beside the river of God, and everyone washed in the blood eats from it freely. Don't look for life anywhere else—it's found in Christ alone, given freely to all who come.

And I heard a loud voice in heaven saying: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ. For the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down—he who accuses them day and night before our God. — Revelation 12:10

The accuser of the brothers has been thrown down, and they overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Christ disarmed the rulers and authorities, triumphing over them in the cross. The accuser may still whisper, but he's been silenced at the cross.
