—everything hinges on your answer. To some He's a cornerstone, to others a stone of stumbling. To those who are called, He's the wisdom and power of God. Paul counted everything as loss for the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus. Get this question right, and everything else falls into place.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you. — JOHN14:26

Jesus didn't leave you as an orphan—He sent the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, in His name. If you, being evil, know how to give good gifts, how much more will your Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask. The Spirit teaches you all things, guides you into truth, and glorifies Christ. Ask, and you'll receive, that your joy may be full.

A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof, the world and all who dwell therein. — Psalm 24:1

The earth is the Lord's and everything in it. You don't own anything—you're a steward. David understood this: everything comes from Your hand, and what we give is simply what You've already given. Since He is faithful, you can cast your cares on Him, knowing He'll supply every need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

for the LORD disciplines the one He loves, as does a father the son in whom he delights. — Proverbs 3:12

The Lord disciplines those He loves—and that's good news. He doesn't wound for pleasure; He wounds to heal. He kills and makes alive; He brings down and raises up. His thoughts toward you are peace, not evil, and no discipline seems pleasant at the time but later yields righteousness. The rod is in the hand of a Father who loves you too much to leave you as you are.

A second time He went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass unless I drink it, may Your will be done.” — Matthew 26:42

Jesus prayed this in Gethsemane with sweat like drops of blood, and He taught you to pray the same words. The way of man is not in himself; your will is a poor guide. He doesn’t always give what you ask, and that’s mercy—He gave Israel their request but sent leanness into their soul. A weaned child resting on its mother has nothing left to prove.

We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life. — Romans 6:4

You were buried with Christ by baptism into death, so that just as He was raised, you too might walk in newness of life. The imperative rests on the indicative: you have died, and a new creation has come. Don't let the world squeeze you into its mold—be transformed by the renewing of your mind. You used to walk in futility; now put on the new self, created after God in true righteousness.

He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters. — Psalm 18:16

He sent from above, He took me, He drew me out of many waters. You didn't climb out of the pit on your own—God reached down while you were dead in trespasses and sins. He brought you up and set your feet upon a rock. Salvation from first to last is His rescue mission, not your self-improvement project.

When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished.” And bowing His head, He yielded up His spirit. — John 19:30

The most complete sentence ever spoken. Jesus didn’t say it in defeat; He said tetelestai, paid in full. The work the Father gave Him was complete, the debt against us nailed to the cross. By one offering He has perfected forever those being sanctified. There’s nothing left to add.

Therefore, the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever. But now the LORD declares: Far be it from Me! For I will honor those who honor Me, but those who despise Me will be disdained. — 1 Samuel 2:30

God says plainly: those who honor Me I will honor. Whoever confesses Christ before men, He will confess before the Father. The honor God gives isn't a pat on the back—it's a crown of life, a weight of glory beyond all comparison. You don't honor God to get something; you honor Him because He's already given you everything.

His mercy extends to those who fear Him, from generation to generation. — Luke 1:50

God's mercy rests on those who fear Him, generation to generation. This isn't the cringing fear of a slave but the reverent awe of a child who knows His Father is both good and great. He hides them in the secret of His presence and draws near to those who tremble at His word. You don't earn mercy by fearing Him; you position yourself to receive it.
