At the close of the sixth day of creation, God had surveyed everything He had made and pronounced it “very good” (1:31). But now God says that there’s something in His wonderful world that is not good: the man is alone. In fact, in the Hebrew text, the phrase “not good” is at the beginning of the Lord’s statement in 2:18. Thank you for joining us as pastor Eddie teaches from Genesis 2:18-25.

God had done many wonderful things during the six days of creation, but the climax of the creation week was God’s “rest” after His work. As we shall see, God has sanctified work as well as rest, but it’s rest that seems to be the greatest need in people’s hearts today. Augustine was correct when he wrote, “Thou hast made us for Thyself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee.”

Today we continue to walk through the first chapter of the first book of the Bible; Genesis. Far more spectacular than the super bowl, we see the incredible creative power of God. It is clear that God created his people for his own glory. (Isaiah 43:7) The entire creation is intended to show God's glory.

In this sermon podcast, pastor Eddie lays the groundwork for our time in the book of Genesis. In Genesis, we find an account of the origin of our world, and of mankind, the origin of human depravity and sin in the “fall of man” depicted in Genesis chapter 3 and the grace of God in His provisions for man’s salvation, beginning with the promise of salvation in Genesis 3:15. We pray that you would see more of Christ, for He is certainly to be found in this great book.

In this edition of the CBC Corpus sermon podcast, we will be looking at our identity in Christ and how to live in light of that identity. In the course of meeting someone for the first time, you might say something like, "What do you do?" What if you were asked the question, "Who are you?" How would you respond? The apostle Paul, in his letter to the believers in Asia Minor, speaks to the issue of the Christian's identity in Christ. Are we living out our corporate identity by belonging to a local, visible church? Do we have brothers and sisters, with whom we love, serve, weep, rejoice, and celebrate? We were saved for community.

The writer of the book of Hebrews tells us in chapter 11 verse 6 that without faith it is impossible to please God. What does that mean and what does biblical faith look like? Guest speaker, David Saenz, gives us a compelling word about faith working from Matthew 8:5-13. Although the Roman centurion knew he was unworthy, he recognized Jesus' authority and appealed to Him for the healing of his paralyzed servant. Scripture tells us that Jesus said to the centurion, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.

Today is DAY 1 of a whole new year. We have been given a fresh opportunity to grow deeper and stronger in our relationship with Christ this year. CBC Corpus is poised and ready for greater ministry and missional opportunities as we grow in leadership and discipleship.

Pastor Eddie will be starting us off this year by teaching from Ecclesiastes 3. Let's begin this new year with a fresh start as we purpose to make the most of the time God is giving us this year.

On this, the 25th of December 2016, we commemorate the birth of the long awaited Messiah, Jesus Christ The Lord. There is no Christmas without Christ, so we celebrate and rejoice in the greatest gift ever given to humanity. Why did God come to us the way He did? Luke 2:1-20 and John 1:1-14 give us the "good news of great joy" and remind us what Christmas is really all about. Let us rejoice and sing, for The Lord Is Come!

On This third Sunday of Advent, we take a closer look at Psalm 85. This psalm was probably written after the Jewish people returned to their land following their seventy years of captivity in Babylon (Jer. 29). Scottish preacher George H. Morrison said, “The victorious Christian life is a series of new beginnings,” and he is right. It is a sin to disobey God and fall, but it is also a sin to stay fallen. We must always make a new beginning, and this psalm gives us some instructions that we can follow after times of failure and chastening. In our waiting, let us remember what God has done, is doing and will do.

On this second Sunday of Advent, pastor Eddie Davila preaches on "Waiting & Trusting". One of the important exhortations of the Bible is the call to “wait on the Lord.” Waiting is one of the most difficult exhortations of Scripture. Why is it so hard? Because, as a part of fallen humanity, we are so prone to take matters into our own hands, to follow our own schemes. Yet, over and over again we are told in Scripture “wait on the Lord.”
