It did not take long for false teachers to arise in the early church. Wherever God sows the truth, Satan quickly shows up to sow lies. Titus faced an enemy similar to that described in 1 Timothy—a mixture of Jewish legalism, man-made traditions, and mysticism.

Today we continue our series in the book of Titus. One reason Paul had left Titus on the island of Crete was that he might organize the local assemblies and “set in order” the things that were lacking. It had been Paul’s policy to ordain elders in the churches he had established (Acts 14:23), but he had not been able to stay in Crete long enough to accomplish this task.

Today we wrap up our series in Hosea. God pleads with His people to return to Him and forsake the sins that were causing their downfall. Though His people may turn away from Him, God will not abandon them, even though He disciplines them, for He is true to His covenant and His promises. “If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself ” (2 Tim. 2:13). The key is turning back to God in honest repentance that leads to radical restoration and salvation.

As we have gone through the book of Hosea together we have seen just how faithful God is in spite of our unfaithfulness. We’ve seen the tough, tender and redeeming love of God. This week we will see what our response should be; running into the arms of majesty!

However, our sin will always have real, unpleasant consequences, but even God’s discipline to us or even just suffering in general is ultimately for our good (Heb 12:11, Rom. 8:28).
