The third talk in the Advanced Charisms Course, given by Fr. Ed Fride, pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church, on Friday, April 26, 2013, at Christ the King Catholic Church as part of the Upper Room Ministry.

Fr. Ed discusses the five "word gifts" listed in I Corinthians 12: word of knowledge, word of wisdom, discernment, interpretation of tongues, and prophecy. Following his talk, Christy Whiting, substituting for Dr. Mary Healy, leads the class in a "lab exercise."

Homily given at the 8:45 a.m. Mass on Sunday, April 21, 2013, the Fourth Sunday of Easter, by Fr. Ed Fride, Pastor, Christ the King Catholic Church. In the Gospel for this Sunday, the annual World Day of Prayer for Vocations, we read that Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice." (John 10:27) If we draw close to the Lord Jesus, we will hear His voice, and He can guide us, especially in regard to our vocations.

The second talk in the Advanced Charisms Course, given by Fr. Ed Fride, pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church, on Friday, April 19, 2013, at Christ the King Catholic Church as part of the Upper Room Ministry.

Fr. Ed discusses the gift of tongues, one of the nine charismatic gifts listed in I Corinthians 12. He describes the four distinct usages of the gift of tongues in the New Testament and why it is very important to distinguish between them. At the end of the talk, he answers questions from the attendees. (The questions, unfortunately, are not picked up very clearly on the recording.)

Homily given at the 11:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, April 14, 2013, the Third Sunday of Easter, by Fr. Ed Fride, Pastor, Christ the King Catholic Church. As St. Paul points out in his letter to the Romans, "The love of God is poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit that has been given to us." (Rom. 5:5) It's this love, which they received when the Holy Spirit came upon them at Pentecost, that impelled the Apostles to witness to Jesus, even at the risk of their lives. Do we love Jesus enough to live for Him, even to suffer for Him? Fr. Ed points to the example of Fr. Emil Kapaun, a US Army chaplain who died as a Prisoner of War in North Korea in 1951 and whose cause for canonization has been introduced in the Church.

The first talk in the Advanced Charisms Course, given by Fr. Ed Fride, pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church, and Dr. Mary Healy, Associate Professor of Sacred Scripture at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. This talk was given on Friday, April 12, 2013, at Christ the King Catholic Church as part of the Upper Room Ministry.

In the opening talk in this new course, Fr. Ed describes why the nine charismatic gifts listed in I Corinthians 12 are at the heart of the Catholic Church and have been since her beginning. Dr. Healy, who will be doing the "lab" portion of each class, gives the class its homework for the week.

Homily given at the 11:30 a.m. Mass on April 7, 2013, the Second Sunday of Easter (Divine Mercy Sunday) by Fr. Pat Egan, Chaplain at Ave Maria Radio. The Resurrection of Jesus ushers in a whole new era of Divine Mercy. Mercy is love's response to suffering, especially the suffering caused by sin. We see an example of that mercy in His response to Thomas, and to us.
