Jesus fulfills the Law as the one pointed to by the prophets. This is the central msg of Christ as he is transfigured before Peter, James, and John upon the mountain. His disciples are provided a glimpse of the unveiled glory of Christ present from eternity past as a source of hope and encouragement for that which will be experienced in the future. This is a source of hope and joy for all of God's people, a future spent in the presence of the Lord, that informs the way that we participate in the radical call to discipleship here and now.

What does it mean to follow after Christ? What does it mean to confess Jesus as King, and what does that now mean is required for his people? As we finish out our time in Mark 8 we see a confession and an implication. " Jesus does not suffer as to exclude your suffering.. He bears a cross, not that you might escape it, but that you might endure it."-Charles Spurgeon

By observing Christ's healing of the blind man in Mark 8 we come to see the humility of Christ and His work to open the spiritual eyes of people to see him as the suffering servant Messiah that makes communion with God possible.

Jesus rejects the pharisees request for a sign before challenging His disciples hardness of heart calling them toward greater consideration of what He has given them. Jesus addresses the condition of the heart and displays His commitment to its transformation.

As we begin Mark 8, we see Jesus' encounter with four thousand hungry gentiles which shapes our understanding of the character of Christ and His provision for people. All that we see here informs our understanding of how we are to relate both to God and others.
