How did they miss it? The king of kings rides into Jerusalem on a young donkey. Everyone knew what that meant. There is praising and singing. The king has returned. And his first order of business is to clean house. Makes perfect sense. What rightful ruler wouldn’t clean house. Look Again. In only a few short days, they all will turn on him. The praises will end. Why? Look Again. We don’t like giving up our thrones. We miss peace protecting our pieces. Look again, don’t miss your chance to let Jesus have the throne.

Why do we only see what we want to see? In the run-up to Holy Week, the Pharisees and religious leaders are desperate to destroy Jesus. All they chose to see is the threat to their position and power, to their comfort and control. They ignore a dead man alive again. In fact, they decide to intentionally destroy a dead man who lives again so that they have their control. Don’t miss that…they seek to re-kill Lazarus instead of trusting in the one who raised Lazarus. And the same still happens…people chose to ignore the empty grave rather than trust the one who conquered death. There is no convincing someone who doesn’t want to see. But we can be different. Maybe its time for us to Look Again at Jesus. Look again…don’t miss what God does because its not what you want.

And our hope becomes our strength to love God and love others... even as we grieve this moment. Grief renews our hope. This life isn't it.. but it will come.
