We saw in Part 1 - All Spiritual Leaders Were First Elders

We will also see here that all apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors (shepherds), and teachers were first Elders (Titus 1:5) and also referred to as Overseers or Bishops (1Tim. 3:1).

* “Pastor” and “Shepherd” are the same words in Greek and refer to the same person - a spiritual leader caring for God’s flock of Believers.

* “Bishop” and “Overseer” are the same words in Greek and refer to the same person.

* “Elder” and “Bishop/Overseer” refer to the same person (Titus 1:5 & 7; 1Tim. 3:1-2), but do have different meanings: “Elder” relates to their spiritual maturity and qualifications. “Bishop/Overseer” relates to their authority and responsibility.

The Lion and Lamb display two characteristic qualities of God’s New Testament Spiritual Leaders:

Like a lion: Bold & Fearless

Like a lamb: Gentle & Humble

After 2000 years of historically accumulated church traditions, some of the most basic Biblical truths have been smothered over with layers of theological bureaucratic mishmash.

Today’s church gatherings are nothing like they were in the New Testament (NT)! Today’s church leadership model is nothing like it was in the NT!

Worst yet, as biblically obvious as this is, most spiritual leaders today either don’t see the obvious, or more likely, don’t want to see it.

And why is this so important? It should be enough to say, because God thought it important enough to have it written down in His eternal Word, the Bible. And here are some of the tragic implications of not following the NT model and instruction. It greatly suppresses and retards:

* Most every Believer’s spiritual maturity, producing spiritual midgets.

* Numerical church growth and multiplication.

* Multiplying strong spiritual leaders.

* Fulfilling national and world evangelization.

* Christianizing national cultures.
