How can we be a success in this world, yet be a total failure in the eyes of God? The problem begins in how we calculate our success. If we only value our own opinion we may find ourselves succeeding, not in success, but in failure. We might see ourselves succeeding in the opinion of this world, but in God's opinion we will be successful failures.

Jesus told a parable about just such a failure. The parable was about a man who was a success in his own eyes, but he was bankrupt before God. The man was on the world's pedestal, but to his surprise, the pedestal collapsed under the weight of eternal realities. God loves us and wants no one to be a successful failure. Jesus will get us on the fast-track to success according to HIS point of view. Now we must learn to obey.

Psalm 119 is a hymn to God’s Word. Many terms are used such as: commands, law, precepts, promises and statutes.There are 22 stanzas as there are 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet. Every verse in each stanza will begin with the Hebrew letter assigned to it. This is poetry in motion: God’s motion-motivation to motivate our trust in him.

The Hebrew letter shin is assigned to the 21st stanza. The famous Hebrew word shalom begins with this letter. Shalom means peace. We have God’s peace litigated by the Prince of Peace: Jesus Christ. Here is one verse as an example: Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. (v. 165). The first half makes a declaration and the second half declares God’s gift of his shalom (peace). All those who have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior now have his peace deep in their hearts.

We need to keep it accurate and up to date. The I.D. we carry with us, be it a driver’s license or a birth certificate, represents how the world sees us.

Does God issue us an I.D.? Yes. We are adopted through Christ, clothed in Christ, one in Christ and we belong to Christ. This is how God sees us. Our identity in Christ is an essential part of our relationship with God. God wants us to know who we are and whose we are. This will make all the difference in the world.
