As leaders ambition is often a trait we come by naturally. The world praises us for getting the job done or for creating jobs or for climbing the success ladder. But is this what God calls us to?
In this episode of the leadership traits series, Holly and I are exploring the concept of what we are calling 'surrendered ambition' and how we can develop this as leaders.

Do you ever struggle to get into God's word? Do you find that your full schedule, your work and family commitments, and the distractions of life sometimes make it difficult to spend time reading the Bible?
If we're honest most of us would say yes, that at least at some point in our lives, we have struggled with being consistent about getting into God's word.
Whether or not this is a current challenge for you, I believe you will get great value out of our conversation with Brittany Ann.
Brittany Ann provides us with insights on why it can be a challenge to get into God's word, why we don't have to follow a particular formula or someone else's method, as well as some of the mistakes we sometimes make when approaching Scripture.
What I love about the entire conversation is that it's really filled with grace. This is not about meeting a particular standard in order to please God. It's about falling in love with God's word so that we can experience a deeper relationship with Him and have our lives transformed by Him.
And as leaders, if we are not experiencing this real relationship with Jesus, we are going to struggle to lead others well. Find our more about how to truly fall in love with God's word in this conversation.

Do you have multiple businesses or lots of business ideas? Are you struggling with figuring out how to focus when you are multi-passionate and enjoy many different types of endeavors?
Have you ever gone on a trip and felt like there's no way you could do all the activities you want to do in the time you're there? This is similar to how we often feel as multi-passionate Christian women. We have so many ideas and so much we want to accomplish, and it can be really hard to narrow down and focus on one thing.
In this episode, I want to walk you through a process that I've used for myself to learn how to focus even when you have lots of ideas and passions you could pursue. This will be especially helpful if you are an entrepreneur or if you have business ideas, as I'll be focusing on this from a business angle.

Do you want to be a leader who others can rely on? Would you like to be trustworthy and dependable?
One of the best ways to become a trustworthy leader is to be a consistent leader. Consistency is not one of the most exciting traits to talk about, but we want to include it in our leadership traits series because it can have a massive impact on your leadership.
In this conversation, Holly and I will share what consistency looks like, why it's so important and the Biblical perspective on this topic. We'll also share how to develop this trait even if it doesn't come naturally to you.

The church is not immune to the problem of domestic abuse. But what can we do as women and as leaders to recognize and overcome it?
All of us have people in our lives who are experiencing abuse of some kind, whether we recognize it or not. In this episode, I'm talking with Charlene Quint about domestic abuse and how it is happening within the Christian church. Charlene shares her own personal experience of living in an abusive marriage and finally escaping after 20 years.
Charlene provides incredibly valuable insights into what the church can do to more effectively address domestic abuse, including warning signs and practical action steps leaders should take in these situations. One of the most important steps we can take is to educate ourselves on domestic abuse, and this conversation is an excellent way to deepen your understanding of this important issue.

Encouragement is a powerful thing, and it's not really an optional part of life and leadership as a Christian. Scripture shows us that we should be encouraging one another, but what does this look like practically and how can we find our unique ways of offering encouragement?
In this episode, Holly and I speak with Kari Bartkus of Love Does That. Kari shares her leadership journey and how this has shifted from being in ministry to now running her own business.
Kari is passionate about being present and showing up for others who are hurting around her, and this is how her business began. In our conversation, Kari is sharing all about why encouragement is so important, how to go about encouraging others, and even how we as leaders sometimes need to become better at asking for or receiving encouragement.

What does it really mean to embrace your gifts? Are we making it harder than it has to be?
The mission of this podcast is to help you embrace your gifts and lead with confidence. But do you know what it looks like to do this?
In this episode, I'm sharing a personal update along with some thoughts on how you can start to truly embrace your own gifts. Often, we overcomplicate this because we think that maybe using our gifts has to be difficult. But many times, embracing our gifts means doing what comes easiest to us.

The statistics show that a lot of kids leave the Christian faith when they become teens and young adults. Is there anything that adults can do to help change this pattern?
In this episode, our guest Lee Ann Mancini shares with us about her passion for helping parents develop a solid faith foundation in our children. She believes that, when parents begin instilling faith at a young age, that this will help reverse the trend of kids walking away at older ages.
Lee Ann shares tips and ideas for parents who want to do this, as well as ways for churches to be more proactive in this area as well. We also discuss the power that mothers have in this process and how they can still be a strong role model for their kids even if they do not have a believing spouse.

Good leaders are good communicators. But how can you become a better communicator, and is there one aspect of communication that is vitally important?
As leaders, we can always be learning and growing, and while there may be some innate leadership qualities in some of us, much of leadership is about developing skills. So in this episode of our leadership traits series, we're going to focus on one skill that is essential for leaders: communication.
Specifically, we're diving into how to have more clarity in your communication as a leader. Clarity is important for leadership as it helps people to understand you, your message, and your vision. It helps to attract or repel people, earn trust, avoid confusion, convey love, and more.
4 keys to more clarity in your communication: 1. Get clarity about your message
It's first essential for you to have clarity around your message--what you want to say to your audience, whether it's one person or 10,000 people.
Ask yourself these 3 questions:
Many times we need an outside perspective… we need to ask someone else to review what we are planning to share and be open to their honest feedback.
2. Self-Awareness
It's vital for you to have self-awareness in order to convey your message with clarity. What do you need self-awareness about?
3. Discernment of situation, circumstances, audience
It's important to know who you are speaking to, and adapt your message based on this. Make sure that it's clear to this group of people that you are talking to.
3 things you should understand about your audience:
Finally, you need to determine the importance of the message and use the appropriate language and mode to convey your message. In other words, prioritize how you communicate.
It's also helpful to identify what you want for a response from your audience. Does your email need a reply? If so, be sure to say that. Do you need participation at an event or help gathering information? Be clear and prioritize what's most important, and then be clear about the response you'd like to see.
Action Step:
Whether you are simply communicating with your family or whether you are communicating to a large team or a huge audience, if you put into practice these 4 things, you will find that you will be more effective.
To review, in order to gain more clarity in your communication, you want to have:
