  • Secret Sins: What Happens When You Keep Them Hidden?
In this episode of the Straight Truth Podcast, Dr. Josh Philpot asks Pastor Richard Caldwell what happens when you hide sin and how Christians should live knowing that the Lord sees every secret thought and action. Beginning with Psalm 94:7-11 and Psalm 90:8, Pastor Caldwell explains that the root of overcoming secret sins is the fear of the Lord, which warns the lost of coming judgment at the Great White Throne in Revelation 20 and exhorts believers not to believe Satan's lie that they can get away with concealing sin. Looking at Proverbs 28:13 and 1 John 1:9, he shows that hiding sin from God brings spiritual misery, harms the people around us, and invites the loving, fatherly discipline of God, whereas confessing and forsaking sin in genuine biblical repentance restores a clear conscience, sweet fellowship with the Father, and the blessed life of Psalm 1. Finally, contrasting deliberate concealment with David's humble prayer in Psalm 19 for God to reveal hidden faults and restrain presumptuous sins, Pastor Caldwell reminds believers that although the accuser attacks their private sins, they have an Advocate in Christ whose blood paid for all their sins, freeing them by grace in Romans 6 to walk in obedience as their works are judged for reward.

  • Stand Fast in Gospel Liberty
This study expounds on Galatians 5:1-6, urging believers to stand firm in the liberty secured by Christ rather than returning to the bondage of the Mosaic Law. It addresses the historical context of Judaizers who insisted that Gentile Christians must be circumcised and keep the Law to be saved, arguing that adding works to faith nullifies the Gospel. The text presents four reasons to reject this addition: it profits nothing, it creates an impossible debt to keep the whole Law, it estranges believers from Christ, and it reveals a lack of true trust in grace. The message concludes by contrasting the life lived under the Law with the life empowered by the Holy Spirit, where the fruit of genuine faith is not self-justification but love for God and others.

The central message urges Christians to live in holy conversation and godliness, recognizing that true faith produces practical works and a distinct lifestyle separate from the world. The exposition highlights the theological assurance that God's people are redeemed and will be gathered to a new heaven and earth where righteousness dwells, grounded in the imputed righteousness of Christ. The tone is pastoral and exhortative, calling for diligence in maintaining a spotless and blameless character through union with Christ. Ultimately, the sermon directs the audience to trust solely in Christ's finished work for salvation, ensuring they are found in peace when He returns.
