  • The Messiah's Rise and Fall (Luke 2:22-36)

We come to our last sermon in our Christmas mini series in the gospel of Luke. There have been predictions about the things that Christ will do, and it is encouraging to know that finally there will be an established everlasting peace between God and His people. There will be no more unrest. How will this peace happen? Is there anything that predicts Christ going to the cross? Or was the cross something that Christ decided midway through his ministry? Please stay tuned to our sermon titled, "The Messiah’s Rise and Fall."

  • Christ's Mission: Success or Failure? (Luke 2:1-21)

Now Luke deals with Christ entering history. Here is the promised child that the scripture has promised. You would think that Christ would be received with open arms with the world coming from all over the earth to welcome this child. However, we find that Christ is born in a stable, and the first people who receive the news of Christ are shepherds. How is this child going to be a success? Is his mission a success? What is the standard success? Please stay tuned to our sermon titled, "Christ's Mission: Success or Failure."

  • What does John have to do with Christmas? (Luke 1:57-80)

So, Luke writes this book to Theopholis to communicate that Jesus is The Messiah. If this is the case then why not merely mention that John is born rather than talk about this his birth and his parent's reaction to the birth? Why not skip to Jesus? Why is John named the prophet of the most high? What is unique about John's ministry? If you are curious about these questions please stay tuned to our sermon titled, "What does John have to do with Christmas? "

  • The Lowly Unite (Luke 1:39-52)

Mary’s song is one of my personal favorite songs of praises to the Lord in scripture. Personally, I think that it captures the depth of our need for God, and the depth of what God has done for His people throughout history. However, are we willing to embrace what this song means? In other words where do we see ourselves in this song? Do we see that we are the humble maidens unworthy of the Lord’s care? How does Mary visiting Elizabeth set the stage for this song? Please stay tuned to our sermon titled, "The Lowly Unite."

  • Why Do We Need Jesus Christ? (Luke 1:26-38)

There is a common saying that Christians say during this Christmas season, "Jesus is the reason for the season." I sometimes wonder if we, myself included, really know why Jesus is the reason for the season or the reason for our life. If someone was going to ask you, "why you need Jesus Christ?" What would you tell them? Do you know that you need Christ? What is significant about the way that Christ enters history? What is significant about the way that Luke presents Christ’s entrance into history? If you are curious about these questions please stay tuned to our sermon titled, "Why Do We Need Jesus Christ?"

  • Christmas Unsung Hero (Luke 1:1-25)

In America Thanksgiving marks sort of the beginning to the Christmas season. So, as we take some time to consider the birth of Christ. Something that is always striking to me is why does Luke start with the birth of John? You see we want to hear about Christ so why waste space talking about John? Why not get to the substance of the message without taking this sidetrack? Have you ever wondered why the prophet John is called to our attention rather than just dealing with Christ? Please stay tuned to our message titled, "Christmas’ Unsung Hero."

  • Jesus, Son of David, Son of Abraham, Son of God (3) (Matthew 2:1-15)

The apostle Paul exhorts the church and reminds the church that we do not live by the wisdom of this world. We are those who live by the wisdom of God. He then speaks of the nature of God’s war and victory as it is manifested through suffering unto glory. Is this movement from suffering to glory all that significant? Does Christ really win the war through suffering? Is this suffering only on the cross or is it throughout the life of Christ? If you are curious about these questions please stay tuned to our final sermon titled, Jesus, Son of David, Son of Abraham, and Son of God (3).

  • Jesus, Son of David, Son of Abraham, Son of God (2) (Matthew 1:18-25)

Matthew’s genealogy makes clear that Christ is the Son of David, Son of Abraham, and Son of God. It is also clear that the Lord will prevail and establish His kingdom. Now, we see the historical account of this child entering history. What does His name mean? Why is He called Jesus Emmanuel? How can Jesus embody these names? Why do we need him to embody these names? Why is His lineage so essential? Please keep listening as we work through these questions in our sermon titled, "Son of David, Son of Abraham, and Son of God (2)."

  • Jesus, Son of David, Son of Abraham, Son of God (Matthew 1:1-17)

The Bible opens with the book of Genesis. This is basically the book of the beginning. It begins with the genealogy of the heavens and the earth. We can see the book of Chronicles packed with genealogical records. We notice that at the opening of Matthew’s gospel there is the genealogy of Jesus that is divided into three sections of 14. Why does Matthew do this? Why do we have genealogies? What is the purpose of cataloguing all these names? Pleas stay tuned as we work through these questions in our sermon titled, "Jesus Son of David, Son of Abraham, and Son of God."

  • Lord of gods: Our Song (Revelation 15-1-4)

We witnessed the song of Israel on the banks of the sea. They sang the praises to the living God. We heard the Song of Mary where she sang the praises of the living God. So, what song do we sing? We find in the book of Revelation we sing the song of Moses. How can we sing this song? If this is the case how can it be true that we are in a better place in covenant history? Why would this be a paradigm song? If you are curious about these questions please stay tuned as we hear, "Lord of gods: Our Glorious Song."
