How could Israel have experienced God's power and still have surrendered to the terrible cycle we find in Judges? Before his death Joshua shows us, reminding the nation of God's amazing grace and warning them of the consequences of compromise. It is a warning for us also to guard against the deceitfulness of sin.

John the Gospel writer has ensured that all who read become witnesses to the truth of who Jesus is. Once one has been exposed to Jesus, the Light of the World, like we have through the miracle of the healing of the man born blind, there are only two effects. These effects are a picture for us at the end of Ch 9. There are the blind and there are those who see. There are the unbelieving and there are the believing. Which are you?

In this narrative passage, we see the depravity of man in the Pharisees as the attempt to investigate the healing of a man born blind. They are so thoroughly influenced by their false beliefs and tradition that they cannot see clearly what is right in front of their eyes. They are missing the Messiah. This forces us to ask the question: "Who are the blind in this passage?"
