The Christian view of history has a start, a middle, and an end. It gives a sense of finality. Christ did not merely arrive at the end of the former age; He brought it to an end with His world-changing act of redemption. Jonathan Edwards wrote that "grace is but glory begun, and glory is but grace perfected". This grace arrives in history with the death of Christ, and the consequences of this perfect death are flowing out through history. Christ died for the many, to put their sins away. He has done everything necessary for the salvation of His people. Your duty is to come to Him, to belong to Him, so that you can enjoy this salvation.

Genesis 24 is the longest chapter in the book and contains the beautiful story of Abraham's servant seeking a wife for Isaac. The hand of God in providentially arranging circumstances is obvious and we are drawn to the servant's faith and fervent prayer to complete his commission from Abraham. In addition, there are some interesting similarities to the Holy Spirit's role in drawing sinners to Christ - seeking a bride for the Son - as well as some important differences. The Spirit brings gifts and highlights the worth of the Son just as Abraham's servant did when speaking to Rebekah to draw her heart to Isaac. A key distinction is that the servant was looking for a woman of noble character who was suitable for marriage, but the Holy Spirit draws unworthy sinners to God's Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, and then transforms them into His eternal Bride.

The call to follow Jesus is not to a life of ease, but to engagement in spiritual warfare, sacrificial service, and loving, joyful obedience. We do not seek suffering as a virtue, but we don't disobey Jesus in an effort to avoid suffering.

5. The title of this sermon is "Finishing Well: Running the Race Set Before Us." The Scriptures here lay out the need for us to run the race of life well, pulling examples from athletes who are self-disciplined in vs 24-25, and from Paul's own manner of running and fighting in vs. 26-27. Paul now presses the same urgency on the Corinthians: Liberty without self-discipline, and without heeding Israel's history, may lead to disqualification. This is written, not to unbelievers, but to us as believers, to the covenant community.

This sermon examines the first three plagues in Exodus to illustrate the hardness of human hearts and the absolute sovereignty of God over creation. The preacher contrasts Pharaoh's stubborn refusal to submit with the ultimate authority of Christ, who bears judgment for sinners. Key themes include the futility of idolatry, the danger of postponing repentance, and the insufficiency of religious counterfeits compared to divine power. The message urges listeners to surrender their lives to God rather than seeking relief without submission. It concludes by highlighting Jesus as the true Mediator who redeems believers from the curse of sin through His grace.
