Real love is a challenge as described by Gary Chapman "the kind of love described in 1 Corinthians 13 does not emphasize emotion but attitude and action - which are not beyond our control"

We Christians often like to categorize ourselves by “spiritual gifts.” On the one hand, this can help us focus our service to God and others. But on the other hand, categorizing can trip us up. What if the Spirit wanted to empower us to work outside of our so called “gifting?” Would we be open to that? The Spirit is looking for willingness in us so that people can be helped.

Paul answers questions they have about sex and marriage. He does so by indicating that both marriage and singleness are gifts. He also addresses divorce. I will conclude by using Tim Keller's "secret of marriage" - how marriage and the gospel define one another and the gospel gives us the way to live a married life.

This week we will focus on 1 Cor. 6:12-20. How powerful are slogans in our society, and how often do they influence us to live a certain way? “You do you!” “I can do whatever I want as long as I don’t hurt anyone.” Slogans like that influence the way people live today. The common notion was that “you can do what you want with your body and it won’t affect your soul.” Paul argues back that “our body is for the Lord!”

We often feel entitled to "fight for our rights". Why wouldn't you? But Paul points out to the church in Corinth that sometimes, we need to lay down our own rights for the good of others; especially when we consider what Jesus sacrificed for us on the cross.

In today's culture, popular belief says "my morality is my business". The church in Corinth felt the same way but Paul makes it clear that God has a different view of morality than we do. A counter cultural view of how we should live in this world.
