Today we consider the importance of Remembrance Sunday and the value of pausing and remembering those who have gone on before. We also reflect on what message or legacy we leave for those who will come afterwards.
David B Haight: So I would hope that our own children, as the generations go on, would know of their heritage, to know who they are and to know that they had fathers who believed and to know that they had fathers who were challenged, that they had fathers who had investigated and who had been out in the world declaring the truth—not in just quoting scriptures—but feeling it in their hearts and souls that what we do is true.

Today we study the principle of priesthood responsibility, where no man (or woman) can act with priesthood power unless it is given by God. We consider how this applies to all members of the Church and can bless all.
James E Faust: Priesthood is the authority delegated to man to minister in the name of God. It is a power that no one can assume on his own initiative. As Paul said, “No man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.” It is an authority beyond all human power to create

Today we study from Hebrews 3-4 about how we should learn to not harden our hearts from the negative example of the ancient Israelites. We learn how a softer heart can bring us great blessings and mysteries of the kingdom as we seek to come closer to our Saviour.
David A Bednar: The purpose and purification, the happiness and joy, and the continuing conversion and protection that come from “yielding [our] hearts unto God” and “[receiving] his image in [our] countenances” cannot be obtained merely by performing and checking off all the spiritual things we are supposed to do. Rather, the power of the Savior’s gospel to transform and bless us flows from discerning and applying the interrelatedness of its doctrine, principles, and practices. Only as we gather together in one all things in Christ, with firm focus upon Him, can gospel truths synergistically enable us to become what God desires us to become and endure valiantly to the end.

Today we continue our study of Hebrews, looking closely at the way the Lord suffered trials and temptations so he could understand what we go through in life. We reflect on the blessing it is to know there is One in the universe who knows intimately how we feel and what we go through.
Howard W Hunter: It is important to remember that Jesus was capable of sinning, that he could have succumbed, that the plan of life and salvation could have been foiled, but that he remained true. Had there been no possibility of his yielding to the enticement of Satan, there would have been no real test, no genuine victory in the result. If he had been stripped of the faculty to sin, he would have been stripped of his very agency. It was he who had come to safeguard and ensure the agency of man. He had to retain the capacity and ability to sin had he willed so to do. As Paul wrote, “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered” and he “was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin”. He was perfect and sinless, not because he had to be, but rather because he clearly and determinedly wanted to be. As the Doctrine and Covenants records, “He suffered temptations but gave no heed unto them.”

Join us as we study into the role that the Saviour has in our salvation but also how studying His life gives insight into the Father. We consider the gravity of the statement that he is in the express image of the Father and what this means for us.
Dallin H Oaks: What we know of the nature of God the Father is mostly what we can learn from the ministry and teachings of His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. As Elder Jeffrey R. Holland has taught, one of the paramount purposes of Jesus’s ministry was to reveal to mortals “what God our Eternal Father is like, … to reveal and make personal to us the true nature of His Father, our Father in Heaven.” The Bible contains an apostolic witness that Jesus was “the express image” of His Father’s person, which merely elaborates Jesus’s own teaching that “he that hath seen me hath seen the Father”.

Today we begin our study of Hebrews in the Come Follow Me materials. We discuss who wrote this epistle and consider what its main message to the Hebrew Christians was and how this message could apply to us today.
Therefore M Burton: Just as Adam was not given further knowledge until he had learned and practiced the law of sacrifice, so the Israelites were not qualified to have the Melchizedek Priesthood until they first learned how to use and practice the laws of the Aaronic Priesthood. The gospel of love was not given until Israel learned and practiced the preliminary law of carnal commandments, which, Paul explained to the Galatians was a schoolmaster to bring them to Christ. In our day we must learn and practice the law of tithing before we can receive the law of consecration. We must learn and practice the laws which pertain to baptism and confirmation before we are permitted to make higher moral and ethical covenants in the temple.

Join us as we look at the example of Captain Moroni in setting out a vision for his people. In our personal lives, homes and responsibilities a vision for the people we work with is a vital part of leading. We learn about the steps to establishing a vision and the important aspects that we often forget.
Robert D Hales: Our Savior’s Second Coming is drawing nearer. Let us not delay in this great cause. Remember Captain Moroni, who hoisted the title of liberty inscribed with the words “In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children.” Let us remember the people’s response: exercising their agency, they “came running together” with a covenant to act.
My beloved brothers and sisters, don’t walk! Run! Run to receive the blessings of agency by following the Holy Ghost and exercising the freedoms God has given us to do His will.

  • Episode 158 - Shadows of the Saviour in Scripture

Today we dive into a number of examples of why the scriptures are valuable for our instruction and learning. We consider shadows or symbols of the Saviour from the Bible and discuss why this is an important testament of Jesus Christ.
M Russell Ballard: Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe that “all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable”. We love the Bible and other scriptures. That may be surprising to some who may not be aware of our belief in the Bible as the revealed word of God. It is one of the pillars of our faith, a powerful witness of the Savior and of Christ’s ongoing influence in the lives of those who worship and follow Him. The more we read and study the Bible and its teachings, the more clearly we see the doctrinal underpinnings of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. We tend to love the scriptures that we spend time with. We may need to balance our study in order to love and understand all scripture.
You young people especially, do not discount or devalue the Holy Bible. It is the sacred, holy record of the Lord’s life. The Bible contains hundreds of pages more than all of our other scripture combined. It is the bedrock of all Christianity. We do not criticize or belittle anyone’s beliefs. Our great responsibility as Christians is to share all that God has revealed with all of His sons and daughters.

Join us today as we study the personal epistle that Paul wrote to Philemon. We discuss the important principle of forgiving those that do us wrong and the reasons why.
Marion D Hanks: Does it not seem a supreme impudence to ask and expect God to forgive when we do not forgive?—openly? and “in our hearts”?
The Lord affirms in the Book of Mormon that we bring ourselves under condemnation if we do not forgive.
But not only our eternal salvation depends upon our willingness and capacity to forgive wrongs committed against us. Our joy and satisfaction in this life, and our true freedom, depend upon our doing so. When Christ bade us turn the other cheek, walk the second mile, give our cloak to him who takes our coat, was it to be chiefly out of consideration for the bully, the brute, the thief? Or was it to relieve the one aggrieved of the destructive burden that resentment and anger lay upon us?

Today we look into Paul's prophecies to Timothy about what would take place in the latter days. We identify what this looks like and how we can be aware of how this impacts us today.
Russell M Nelson: These are the latter days, so none of us should be surprised when we see prophecy fulfilled. A host of prophets, including Isaiah, Paul, Nephi, and Mormon, foresaw that perilous times would come, that in our day the whole world would be in commotion, that men would “be lovers of their own selves, … without natural affection, … lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God,” and that many would become servants of Satan who uphold the adversary’s work. Indeed, you and I “wrestle … against the rulers of the darkness of this world, [and] against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
