LDS Study Session seeks to generate reflection and about areas in the Restored Gospel. Whether it's Come Follow Me, a General Conference talk or a recent Gospel Topic, hopefully you'll find something to keep the Spirit of Christ in your life. @mattsroberts90
Join us as we take a look at Paul's second epistle to Timothy, the one he seems to know will draw in the close of his ministry. We reflect on Paul's positive, hopeful outlook despite his knowledge that his end, and the end of the dispensation, drew nigh.
Alvin R Dyer: And yet in what spirit did he write Timothy, his young convert, who was faltering in the faith? Does he complain of his hardships? Does he regret his life? Does he dampen the courage of his younger friend by telling him that almost every earthly hope is doomed to failure, and that to struggle against human wickedness is a fruitless fight?
Not so! His last letter to Timothy is one of hope rather than despair. For himself the battle is over; the race is run. The days' work in the Master's vineyard is well nigh over. When it is quite finished and when he has entered the Master's presence, then and there—nowhere and now—shall he receive the crown of righteousness and unspeakable reward. It is Timothy, not Paul, who is in danger of yielding to languor and timidity, and forgetting that the Spirit of God is not of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

We continue our study of 1 Timothy today with a well known section within this pastoral epistle. We consider the importance of being an example of those that follow Christ and the principles that we can follow to develop this example.
Thomas S Monson: We who have been ordained to the priesthood of God can make a difference. When we maintain our personal purity and honor our priesthood, we become righteous examples for others to follow. The Apostle Paul admonished, “Be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” He also wrote that the followers of Christ should be “as lights in the world.” Providing an example of righteousness can help to illuminate an increasingly dark world.

Join us as we begin our Come Follow Me study this week with the background of Timothy and Titus and in particular the purpose of the epistles that Paul wrote to them. We reflect on the personal messages here and how they can apply to us today.
Bible Dictionary: These epistles, known as the pastoral epistles, deal mainly with questions relating to the internal discipline and organization of the Church and with the ideal of the pastoral office. We learn from them that Paul was set free from his first imprisonment in Rome and revisited his old friends in Greece and Asia Minor.

We take a break from the study of the Come Follow Me materials and look at the 21 Day Book of Mormon Study Challenge. Today we look at what the atonement of Jesus Christ is and use Alma 34:8-41 to help begin to delve into this awe-inspiring and vital doctrine.
Elder David A Bednar: There is no physical pain, no spiritual wound, no anguish of soul or heartache, no infirmity or weakness you or I ever confront in mortality that the Savior did not experience first. In a moment of weakness we may cry out, “No one knows what it is like. No one understands.” But the Son of God perfectly knows and understands, for He has felt and borne our individual burdens. And because of His infinite and eternal sacrifice, He has perfect empathy and can extend to us His arm of mercy. He can reach out, touch, succor, heal, and strengthen us to be more than we could ever be and help us to do that which we could never do relying only upon our own power. Indeed, His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

Today we continue looking a little more into 1 Thessalonians and pick up on some reassuring, comforting words that Paul had regarding death and the loss of a loved one. We reflect on the promise of life after and how this can bring us peace.
Dieter F Uchtdorf: On Easter Sunday we celebrate the most long-awaited and glorious event in the history of the world.
It is the day that changed everything.
On that day, my life changed.
    Your life changed.
The destiny of all God’s children changed.
On that blessed day, the Savior of mankind, who had taken upon Himself the chains of sin and death that held us captive, burst those chains and set us free.
Because of the sacrifice of our beloved Redeemer, death has no sting, the grave has no victory, Satan has no lasting power, and we are “begotten … again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
Truly, the Apostle Paul was correct when he said we can “comfort one another with these words.”

Join us as we take some time to compare and contrast the important questions that members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reflect on regularly to consider where they can develop and be prepared to enter the holy house of the Lord. These were changed at the last General Conference if the Church and we consider what these changes indicate.
Russell M Nelson: The crowning jewel of the Restoration is the holy temple,” President Nelson said. “Individual worthiness to enter the Lord’s house requires much individual spiritual preparation. But with the Lord’s help, nothing is impossible. In some respects, it is easier to build a temple than it is to build a people prepared for a temple. Individual worthiness requires a total conversion of mind and heart to be more like the Lord, to be an honest citizen, to be a better example and to be a holier person.

We conclude this week's Come Follow Me study this week with a look a set of Paul's last words in his first letter. We consider the wide range of teachings found in this epistle and the important principles we can take away from this
Elaine S Dalton: Virtue is the golden key to the temple. So, third, be not moved in being worthy to make and keep sacred covenants. The covenant you make at baptism will tether you to the path of virtue and happiness as you renew that covenant each week by partaking of the sacrament. As you keep your baptismal covenant, you will look different, dress different, and act different from the world. Keeping this covenant will enable you to be guided by the Holy Ghost. Stand in holy places, and do not even go near those environments or music, media, or associations that might cause you to lose the companionship of the Holy Ghost. And as you keep your covenants, you will remain worthy and prepared to enter the Lord’s holy temples.

Join us today as we continue and conclude the individual study sections of the Come Follow Me materials this week. We reflect on the knowledge that Paul had about the falling away before the Second Coming of the Saviour and how this was prophesied before it's happening.
Delbert L Stapley: The pure doctrines Christ taught became diluted with the philosophy of the world, and profane innovations appeared in the ordinances of the church. Eventually, that which had once been clear and understandable became mythical and confusing. Confusion is the field where Satan operates to deceive and lead mankind astray. Jesus and His apostles predicted a “falling away" which did occur, and Christianity entered a long night of darkness.
Today a multiplicity of churches and doctrines abound, all claiming one source. Such a claim, of course, defies reason and contradicts the teachings and pattern established by Jesus Christ. A sincere seeker for truth must ask: “Which, if any, of the varying Christian groups is right?” For guidance, the apostle James gave this counsel: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” If you sincerely put this promise to the test in seeking light and truth, you will be rewarded.

Today we continue the study of 1 Thessalonians, today focusing on Paul's teachings about the Saviour's Second Coming. We consider what we need to do to prepare for this time and how the metaphors Paul uses reflect the nature of this waiting period we find ourselves in.
Harold B Lee: One of our brethren is supposed to have had a patriarchal blessing saying that he would preside over the Church when the Savior came. This is, of course, false. Another one among us has been said to have declared that there are some living today who will see the Savior when he comes. This again is fictitious. Well, the Master said that the time of his coming would be as a thief in the night, that of the time of his coming not even the angels of heaven would know. If we would stop to think of it, nobody with any authority would ever say that such a declaration could be authentic.

Join us as we continue our study of the Come Follow Me materials for this week. Join in as we explore Paul's teaching about becoming more holy and how this blesses the lives of others around us.
Russell M Nelson: Under President Gordon B. Hinckley’s inspired direction, temples are now more accessible than ever. Inscribed on each temple are the words “Holiness to the Lord.” That statement designates both the temple and its purposes as holy. Those who enter the temple are also to bear the attribute of holiness. It may be easier to ascribe holiness to a building than it is to a people. We can acquire holiness only by enduring and persistent personal effort. Through the ages, servants of the Lord have warned against unholiness. Jacob, brother of Nephi, wrote: “I would speak unto you of holiness; but as ye are not holy, and ye look upon me as a teacher, [I] must … teach you the consequences of sin.”
