We begin a 2 week section of Come Follow Me, studying the letter from Paul to the Ephesians. We begin with a discussion about predestination/foreordination and how this principle works because we live under the direction of a perfect God.

Brigham Young: "The spirit is warring with the flesh continually, and the flesh against the spirit. Which will come off victorious? This will decide the destiny of all the inhabitants of the earth. If the spirit reigns triumphant and overcomes the body and its passions, that character will receive glory; but if the passions and sin, within the flesh, overcome the spirit and subdue it, that character will be lost. That is all there is of it."

Join in as we discuss how the gospel was preached to Abraham and these promises were given to those before Christ came. We consider how practices of the gospel were in place before Christ began His ministry.

Elder Harold B Lee: And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. He was speaking of the ordinance of baptism in Moses' day when he wrote these words to the Corinthians: . . . how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses... And then of the children of Israel under the leadership of Moses, Paul again wrote to the Hebrews, and said, For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. All of these statements thus recorded in the Bible have been confirmed by modern revelation. Just as in the dispensations of Adam, Abraham, and Moses were those fundamental teachings given and those fundamental ordinances of the gospel administered

Join us as we continue the study of how the Saviour unlocks the door for the Gospel to be preached to all people, not just the literal seed of Abraham. We also consider the important role that dispensation heads (like Abraham) have in symbolising and foreshadowing the role that the Saviour has with the whole human family.

Orson Pratt: I refer now to the Patriarchs, and more especially to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, three very worthy men, so worthy that the Lord chose them as representatives of the faithful in all future ages, and declared that all who should be saved in future ages should became their seed, either springing directly from their loins, or being adopted, through the Gospel, into the family of Abraham, who was to be called the father of the faithful: that is the father not only of the faithful who lived from his day until the coming of Christ, but of all who should live after Christ who followed in the footsteps of this ancient Patriarch and embraced the same Gospel that he taught, and they should have a claim on the promises that were made to him.

We begin our study of the Come Follow Me materials for this week. We consider how the gospel of Christ sets us free of the restrictive and short term law of Moses.

Elder Franklin D Richards: I wish the Saints would put away these foolish ideas. I want to have you realize that you are in a condition of peace and plenty, with liberty, too, for God has made you free.

God has made His people free from the bondage of sin and death; we are at liberty, and there is no power on the earth that has the ability to fasten the shackles of sin and Satan upon us. It all depends upon our own conduct, as to whether we are and shall continue free.

LDS Gospel Topics: Physical intimacy is a sacred part of Heavenly Father’s plan of happiness. However, the adversary tries to thwart the Lord’s plan of happiness by suggesting that physical intimacy is only for personal gratification. Pornography is a tool of the adversary and its use causes the Spirit of the Lord to withdraw from us.
