This week we continue our exorcism series with a second installment focusing on fear. This week Rev. Sam will also cop to the glaring exegetical error in last week's sermon.

The worship theme for January is "Joy Comes in the Morning: An Exorcism in Four Parts." Today is Part 1: Anger.

Author bell hooks says, "Redeemed and restored, love returns us to the promise of everlasting life. When we love we can let our hearts speak." Can you imagine a love so big, it changes the world? This morning, we will explore this expansive grace that is ours to claim.

From the Christian calendar comes a reminder, a promise, and a challenge: the divine is with us. A reminder, because this has always been true. A promise, because it always will be true. And a challenge, because the divine meets our needs but not our expectations.

This week, the fourth week of Advent, is about love. We will gather to consider Mary's "Yes" to God, Joseph's decision to love a child not his own, and what they might have to teach us about what love can look like in 2020.

This week, we will gather to learn about Advent, about anticipation, about the interplay of light and dark this time of year and how we might find joy in the darkness.

Together we will explore what we can learn from rocks about justice, strength, and the days ahead. To prepare for this Sunday, notice the stones, boulders, and rocks you encounter this week.

Even when we can't be together to share soup from the same pot, we all have something to contribute that can help nourish our community. Let us gather to give thanks for what we have to offer.
