In fact, death squads affiliated with the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) that now rules over much of Syria have been blamed for more than 1,000 killings in the past week, most of them civilian members of the Alawite minority of deposed president Bashar al-Assad. Syrian Christians fear they will be the next group targeted by the HTS security forces.
