Today we're doing something a little different and a whole lot crazy. Today we're doing the first-ever Cigar Battle here on CigarScore, and we're pairing two great cigars together to see which one wins.

The contenders are two cigars made exclusively for Stogies World Class Cigars in Houston, Texas. See, the team at Stogies has an affinity for lanceros, so they tasked major cigar brands to make a cigar just for their South-Texas customers. And today we have two of those choice offerings, one from Tatuaje and one from RoMa Craft.

Officially, their names are the and the H-Town Tatuaje Exclusive Series Lancero and the H-Town RoMa Craft Neanderthal OM Lancero, but we've shortened those names below and in the video.

According to Stogies, the RoMa Craft lancero:

"originates in Nicaragua. The strength is best described as Full with a standard shape of Lancero. Binder is Connecticut Broadleaf and wrapper influence is San Andres. Filler comes from Dominican and Nicaragua"

And the Tatuaje Lancero:

"originates in Nicaragua. The strength is best described as Medium-Full with a standard shape of Lancero. Binder is Nicaraguan and wrapper influence is Ecuador Sumatra. Filler comes from Nicaragua."

And both cigars are $10. Since these cigars are about as similar as they could possibly be, I thought they'd be the perfect cigars with which to launch the CigarScore Cigar Battle!

Final Thoughts:

Wow, what an awesome Cigar Battle! The H-Town Tatuaje Exclusive Series Lancero and the H-Town RoMa Craft Neanderthal OM Lancero, both really went head to head and each really delivered.

Both cigars had great and even burns. Both cigars had great draws. Both cigars were full-bodied and full-flavored.

However, since this is a cigar battle, there can be only one winner. For me, that winner was the Tatuaje.

Whereas the RoMa Craft (in typical RC fashion) was pedal-to-the-medal from the first puff, the Tatuaje seemed just a little more nuanced and complex. The Tatuaje was also just a smidge bigger and took about 10 minutes longer to smoke, so it might be a little more value for your money.

While I don't love all RoMa Craft Tobac's cigars, I can't deny the fact that they're always well made with a lot of attention to detail. And, with that said, there are some RoMa Craft cigars that I absolutely love, like the Intemperance EC XVIII series.

RoMa Craft makes a variety of cigars, most of them unapologetically bold. And today's selection is the RoMa Craft Intemperance Whiskey Rebellion 1794 Bradford, which has a dark, oily, Ecuadorian Habano wrapper.

On the cold draw, the flavors were slightly sweet and I tasted what I thought were hints of whiskey, so maybe this "Whiskey Rebellion" cigar was aged in a whiskey barrel. We'll see.

In the middle of the cigar, somewhere around the 25-minute mark, I discovered a massive hollow spot in the cigar that caused some pretty major draw issues. A little further, perhaps after I burned through the hollow spot, the burn became quite uneven.

Final Thoughts:

Despite my excitement for the RoMa Craft Intemperance Whiskey Rebellion 1794 Bradford, and the sweet aroma it put out, I didn't really care for this cigar. It was plagued with construction issues, a trait not typical of RoMa Craft cigars in my experience. I had to torch the cigar multiple times to get an even burn. That combined with the hole in the middle, and you get a poorly made stick.

I may be getting soft in my old age, but I'm going to give the RoMa Craft Intemperance Whiskey Rebellion 1794 Bradford a CigarScore of 3. Perhaps it should've gotten a CigarScore 2, but I may be more forgiving than I used to be. The construction was pretty bad, but you might love these bold, intense, oaky, charred flavors, and really enjoy this blend.

One interesting and cool thing about going to cigar events is that you sometimes get cigars you couldn't get elsewhere. And that's sort of the case with today's cigar, the Nomad Toro by Ezra Zion, a.k.a., the Nomad by Ezra Zion Cigars House Blend, which I got at Underground Cigar Shop's NFG 2020, in Fort Worth, Texas.

On the cold draw, the Nomad Toro was so light, I couldn't pick up much flavor. However, after torching the closed foot, I was greeted with an easy draw and plenty of smoke.

Despite what the Nomad Cigars website told me, I don't think this Nomad House Blend has a maduro wrapper. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Anyway, the Nomad Toro by Ezra Zion is a pretty good stick! The construction is good; the burn is good; the draw is good. However, I don't think it's the best cigar Ezra Zion has blended. (I think this one is better).

But the Nomad House Blend is a great cigar and earns a CigarScore 5.

Before even cutting or lighting the cigar, the Unico Serie A smelled pretty good. This stick is several years old, and that time spent aging appears to be paying off.

After snipping the end of the long cigar, the cold draw offered up flavors like Betty Crocker boxed brownies.

Final Thoughts:

If you like other cigars in the Liga Privada line from Drew Estate, you're going to like the Drew Estate Liga Privada Unico Serie A. The flavors are good, the burn was almost perfect, and the draw was great considering the length and ring gauge of the stick.

Initially, the Liga Privada and Liga Undercrown lines of cigars were only for the employees of Drew Estate. However, they took a risk and offered them up for sale. The lines were so successful that they went into production. I can see why. The Unico Serie A is a great stick.

Although I couldn't find an exact or current price for this cigar, everything else about it led to a great experience. For these reasons, the Drew Estate Liga Privada Unico Serie A earns a CigarScore 5.

A big cigar with a funny name - that's what we're smoking today. The La Aurora Hors D'Age 2018 (which means "beyond time") is a large-ish cigar with an Ecuadorian wrapper. It's a fairly limited edition cigar (only 6000 boxes of 15 cigars were produced), so it should be pretty good.

Some cigars you choose; others, you don't. Today I'm smoking the Esteban Carreras Unforgiven Toro Grande, a cigar given to me by a friend. However, unlike some cigars I've been given, this Unforgiven was, well, given, by a friend who doesn't know a lot about cigars.

Oh well, time for an adventure. The Esteban Carreras Unforgiven Toro Grande is an okay looking cigar, but it doesn't look "premium." There's a little bit of extra glue carelessly forgotten around the label and end cap.

After cutting the end, I got a good draw, though the cold draw flavors made me think that this cigar hadn't aged long enough. Once I lit the cigar, I got hints of angel food cake-like sweetness.

Through the middle of the cigar, the burn was mostly good, the draw was mostly good, but the flavors... well, I wasn't enjoying them. Everything about this cigar feels rushed.

Final Thoughts:

A decent burn and a great draw do not a perfect cigar make. Cigars that you look forward to and ones to which you keep returning require something more - awesome flavors. There were flavors of underaged and harsh tobacco along with flavors of ammonia. I just didn't like this cigar.

Due to bad flavors and what I felt was a rushed product, the Esteban Carreras Unforgiven Toro Grande earns a CigarScore 2.

The Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Umbagog Toro was sent to me by Good Cigar Co and comes in at around the $9 price point, a cost that's much lower than other DT&T sticks. On the cold draw, I tasted smokey barbeque.

After lighting the end, the draw is absolutely perfect. The flavors are smokey with hints of cinnamon spice. I'm excited to see what the Umbagog has in store for me!

Final Thoughts:

The Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Umbagog Toro is a good cigar, but in the final third, some of the flavors were a little harsh and off-putting. In the middle of the cigar, there were some burn issues that I had to fix with my lighter. However, draw remained perfect and I think the Umbagog, though on the cheaper end of the DT&T product list, is still a very well made cigar.

While there were some flaws in the cigar, at the end of the day, smoking it was an enjoyable experience that I wish had lasted a little bit longer for the size. The Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Umbagog Toro earns a CigarScore 4.

At the request of a viewer on YouTube, user "Don de Puros", today I'm smoking the Trinidad Espiritu Series No. 1 Toro. I think this might be my first-ever Trinidad cigar, and it's visually very impressive. The wrapper leaf looks great and it has some slight texture to it. However, the veins are dehydrated and pressed, and this cigar looks very tasty.

After cutting the end and giving it a torch, the initial flavors are very spicey. The Nicaraguan wrapper delivers tons of spice, and I suspect that this cigar is not for the faint of heart. The draw has started off very well, and I've got high hopes for the Trinidad Espiritu Series No. 1 Toro.

Final Thoughts:

While there were a couple of issues, overall, the construction of the Trinidad Espiritu Series No. 1 Toro was very good.

The flavors of both spicey and sweet Nicaraguan tobaccos come through clearly, but the sweet is more apparent on the retrohale. The draw was great, but there were some spots where the burn was uneven.

Although this cigar would benefit from at least six months of aging in a well-humidified humidor, the Trinidad Espiritu Series No. 1 Toro was still deserving of a CigarScore 4.

The Oscar Valladares Super Fly is a cigar I've been seeing a lot about recently. Today we're smoking the Oscar Valladares Super Fly Super Corona. This vitola is smaller than I generally smoke, but the Mexican San Andres wrapper looks delicious. After punching and torching the cigar, the first flavors were bold and rich with a little bit of spice, and the draw was fairly decent. In the first few puffs, the milder Honduran tobacco was hidden behind the bolder Mexican and Nicaraguan tobaccos.

Final Thoughts:

The Oscar Valladares Super Fly Super Corona had a nearly perfect burn, a perfect draw, and rich, bold, and spicey flavors that were well-blended and delicious.

My one problem with the Super Corona vitola is the price for the length of smoke. For a $9 cigar, I would've liked it to last just a little bit longer. But other than that, the Oscar Valladares Super Fly Super Corona is a great smoke and it earns a CigarScore 4. I plan on smoking this again soon!

Cigar friends are the best friends, and today I'm smoking a cigar gifted to me by my friend Paul. This is RoMa Craft Aquitaine EMH Saber Tooth, and if it's like most of the other RoMa Craft cigars I've had, it's sure to knock my socks off!

After punching the end of the cigar with my Select Draw Cigar Cutter, the draw was excellent and full of powerful flavors. This cigar starts of incredibly bold, and just after a few puffs, I can tell that the RoMa Craft Saber Tooth is going to be one of the strongest, most full-bodied cigars I've had in a long time.

About halfway through the cigar, I had a fairly uneven burn which was easily corrected by a blast from my torch. The draw remained perfect through the middle, and the flavors continued to be bold, heavy, and high on nicotine. And occasionally, the stripe of Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf offers up a tasty treat of roasted honey.

Final Thoughts:

Despite having a couple of burn issues that required a touch-up from my torch, the draw has been perfect. The RoMa Craft Aquitaine EMH Saber Tooth is obviously very well made.

If you like really strong, extremely bold, and powerful flavors in your cigars, you're going to love this cigar. For me, this somewhat rare RoMa Craft Aquitaine EMH Saber Tooth earns a CigarScore 4.
