Initial Thoughts:

At the time I revied this cigar, RoMa Craft Cigars were still fairly new to me. While I've still had less than a dozen of them, I do, however, have several more to enjoy in my humidor.

The RoMa Craft Intemperance EC XVIII Brotherly Kindness has a name longer than the cigar itself. In this case, RoMa Craft is the brand, Intemperance EC XVIII is the brand, and Brotherly Kindness denotes the vitola, or size. Oh, and EC stands for Ecuadorian Connecticut (compared to the Intemperance BA which stands for Brazilian Arapicara, which I reviewed here).

Now that we're all on the same page… This cigar starts great. You'll find notes of roasted nuts and dark honey. The burn starts off pretty even and a great draw invites you to enjoy the rest of the cigar.

Final Thoughts:

Through the first two-thirds of the cigar, the only thing to complain about with the RoMa Craft Intemperance EC XVIII Brotherly Kindness is a slightly uneven burn (see the video 6:52).

At the end of the cigar, the only thing to complain about was the burn. The flavors of the tobacco were almost perfectly blended, the draw was excellent, and I think this cigar will help propel RoMa Craft onto a larger stage in the world of cigars. For these reasons, the RoMa Craft Intemperance EC XVIII Brotherly Kindness earns a CigarScore 5.

One of the first things I noticed about the Espinosa Comfortably Numb #1 was that its label was backward, or upside down. While most cigar labels read left to right (with the foot being on the right), this one requires you to flip the cigar over.

After cutting and lighting the cigar, the flavors were smooth and rich, and the draw offered no challenges. At about the halfway point of the cigar, I started noticing hints of cinnamon and toasted bread.

Final Thoughts:

After enjoying the Espinosa Comfortably Numb #1 for just over an hour, I have to say, this cigar is pretty good. There's not a lot to criticize about this stick.

The price is right, the burn was mostly even, and the draw was perfect through the entire smoke.

Because I'd smoke this cigar again and I'd recommend it to you, the Espinosa Comfortably Numb #1 earns a CigarScore 4.

Varina Farms is a relatively new name in the cigar world. I don't know exactly when they got started, but I see reviews of their products going back to at least 2013. That said, they're 100% new to me.

I got the Varina Farms Breakfast Blend Toro in the July box from CIGRco, and I could immediately tell it was unique. The cigar comes completely wrapped in paper. After you take that paper off, you'll find a very light, very appealing looking U.S. Connecticut Shade wrapper. The first few puffs are delicious, and I'm excited to see what Varina Farms has made.

About half-way through the Varina Farms Breakfast Blend Toro, the draw was perfect and the burn was pretty dang even. I also started noticing slight hints of cinnamon, which was a nice thing given that this is a “breakfast cigar.”

That said, at a $7 price point, this cigar is great. That's a rockstar price for what I think is a rockstar-cigar. This is a delicious cigar for those times when you want to smoke something on the lighter side.

Because this cigar has great flavors, with a great draw and burn, at a great price point, the Varina Farms Breakfast Blend Toro earns a CigarScore 5.

Initial Thoughts:

The first thought I had about the Man 'O War Ruination was, "Wow, this cigar smells amazing!" This cigar is a blend coming from AJ Fernandez, and it has an Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper that just looks amazing. Although my cutter didn't make a perfect cut, I'm excited to see what this cigar delivers.

After lighting the cigar, the first puffs had a mix of flavors. There was a combination of really good flavors that were paired with flavors that were just okay.

During the first third, the Man 'O War Ruination had a somewhat uneven burn, and a few harsh flavors did pop up. However, with all that going on, I still like the cigar so far.

Despite having a couple of burn and flavor issues, I liked this cigar a lot. The Man 'O War Ruination has great construction and a great draw. There weren't any stems causing a tight draw. And, the burn was fairly decent.

"Holy crap! This cigar is huge!" That was my initial thought when I first laid eyes on The Texan by Fratello. As soon as I grabbed these out of the box, I knew this cigar was special. The Fratello "The Texan" is over seven inches long with a 58 ring gauge, and it looks delicious.

After using my Select Draw Cigar Cutter to punch the end of The Texan, the cigar lit easily, it had a nice draw, and the flavors were medium and smooth.

At the end of the cigar, which is saying something, given that I enjoyed it for an entire evening, I'd say the Fratello The Texan is a good cigar. It's very reminiscent of the Fratello Fratello. The flavors are very similar to that and the Fratello Bianco.

The Texan lasted a full two and a half hours, and the price is on point. If you like Fratello's cigars, you're going to really enjoy this one. Because the flavors were good, the build quality was without issue, and because I'd smoke it again, the Fratello The Texan earns a CigarScore 4.

Initial Thoughts:

At first glance, the Illusione ECCJ Corona Gorda looks very tasty. The medium brown wrapper has veins that are thin and look to be well dehydrated. The end cap is a little off-center, but that might not cause any issues.

After punching the cigar just once, the draw was great and I could fully taste what the cigar had to offer. The burn started off a little uneven, but it's still early.

Final Thoughts:

The Illusione ECCJ Corona Gorda is an extremely well-made cigar with decent flavors. The burn that started off uneven never really got much better, and it was only "alright." And, the great draw stayed great throughout the entire smoke.

However, those decent flavors were only okay. Additionally, one factor that weighs heavily on my score today is the $12 price point on this cigar. The flavors were good, but they weren't rich and complex like I'd expect from a $12 cigar.

Because I think there are better cigars for the money and ones which might offer more value for the price, the Illusione ECCJ Corona Gorda gets a CigarScore 3. I'd be happy to smoke one with you if you really wanted to try this one, but I'd also try to steer you toward something else in the $12 price range.

I'm not much for house cigars. They're typically not quite up to par with their more premium partners (as you'd expect). Whenever I sit down with a stick to enjoy a couple of hours of my day, I tend to prefer something well-built, tasty, and that's going to be something to enjoy.

So, when Bradley Reith from Zeal Cigar in Arizona reached out to me about his house brand 556 Maduro, I was a little.... hesitant? Today I'm smoking the Zeal Cigars House 556 Maduro in a Churchill.

Final Thoughts:

Let's start off talking about the favors of the Zeal Cigars House 556 Maduro. While they were good flavors, I wish they'd been more integrated. Instead of separate flavors like on a plate, I wanted them to be mixed as if they were in a bowl. Perhaps some additional aging would help with that.

Despite a slightly tight draw, the build quality on the 556 Maduro was really good. The burn was also very even through the entire smoke.

While this cigar wasn't my favorite, the Zeal Cigars House 556 Maduro is still a very solid budget cigar, and I'd smoke it again. And, I wouldn't mind having a few more in my humidor. For these reasons, the Zeal Cigars House 556 Maduro Churchill earns a CigarScore 3.
