Continuing my search for the perfect breakfast cigar, I found myself grabbing the Camacho Connecticut Toro. Camacho is a brand I smoked often in the mid-2000s, but after noticing a fluctuation in quality control, I moved on to other manufacturers.

But today, I'm smoking a Camacho I've never tried before. The Camacho Connecticut Toro has an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and a blend of Honduran and Dominican tobacco inside. Since there are no Nicaraguan leaves inside, I expect this cigar to be mild and smooth, perfect for pairing with my favorite coffee.

Final Thoughts:

To be honest, the Camacho Connecticut Toro was a joy to smoke. The burn was perfect. The rollers paid attention to the details. The draw was good. Like I said, a joy to smoke. As I continued through the cigar, the flavors of roasted honey never got bitter and the cigar never got too hot.

Because this cigar gets everything right, including a rockstar price point, the Camacho Connecticut Toro earns a CigarScore of 5, and I'm looking forward to enjoying the next one!

I grabbed the Eiroa The First 20 Years Toro solely because of how much I enjoyed the CLE Prieto, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Whenever I like one cigar from a manufacturer or brand, I'm much more likely to try another one. That's why first impressions are so critical ;)

The Eiroa The First 20 Years Toro is a box-pressed toro packaged in a cream-colored paper. It was made to commemorate the 20 years that the Eiroa family has been in the cigar industry.

After punching the end, the draw was smooth, and I could taste hints of the same ginger that I remember so clearly from the Prieto. Additionally, there are flavors of spice and maybe sweet chocolate in the first third.

The Eiroa The First 20 Years Toro was a very enjoyable smoke. The draw was perfect, the burn was almost perfect, but the flavors were just ok. Personally, I preferred the CLE Prieto, but these flavors might be exactly what you are looking for. However, a word of caution - if you don't like the flavor of ginger, you will likely not like this cigar.

At the end of the day, the Eiroa The First 20 Years Toro earns a CigarScore 4 - its a good cigar, but I think there are better cigars out there that I'd prefer to enjoy for the money.

When AVO announced their Unexpected Series at IPCPR 2019, paid no attention. But, when I saw the display at my local lounge, I took notice! After smoking and reviewing the AVO Unexpected Celebration, I knew they were onto something.

The AVO Unexpected Passion is the 2nd of the series for me to review. It has a beautiful red label and an equally beautiful wrapper leaf that's milk chocolate in color, with perhaps a hint of red brick. After torching the foot, the Unexpected Passion started mild, but still quite tasty.

Final Thoughts:

At about the 45-minute mark, the cigar was really unraveling. The draw was ok, the burn was even, and I never could get the sour, bitter, nasty flavors out of my mouth from when my palate got blasted in the first third. The only redeeming quality in the AVO Unexpected Passion was that it had a perfect draw.

However, I think this stick was a fluke.

I've smoked several AVO cigars and most of them are mild, well-made, and delicious. But, because I wouldn't smoke this one again, and therefore wouldn't feel right recommending it to you, the AVO Unexpected Passion earns a very low CigarScore 2.

As soon as I saw the God of Fire Aniversario 2016 in August's box from Luxury Cigar Club, I was excited. The God of Fire series of cigars from Arturo Fuente are somewhat rare but highly sought after.

This God of Fire Aniversario 2016 has a football shape to it. It's covered in a fantastic Ecuadorian Sungrown wrapper, although there's still a fair amount of vegetable glue holding the tapered foot together. The flavors are mild and smooth and a little bit sweet.

Final Thoughts:

Whenever you pay a high premium for a cigar, it better be flawless. And during my time with the God of Fire Aniversario 2016, perfect it was not.

The draw was pretty good. The flavors became somewhat bitter and quite peppery in the final third - which means about $10 of the cigar was a waste for me.

In the end, I think there are better cigars for the money. I think there are better cigars from the Dominican Republic. And, I think there are better cigars from Arturo Fuente, and those cigars come in at a lower price point.

For these reasons, the Arturo Fuente God of Fire Aniversario 2016 earns a CigarScore of 3. It's an okay cigar, but it's not the best in any category.

Before starting CigarScore TV, I had a love-love relationship with Rocky Patel cigars. However, after having a bad experience with the Rocky Patel Edge A-10 and the Aged, Limited and Rare Sixty (2018), I've got a more of a love-hate feeling toward the brand.

With that said, today I'm smoking the Rocky Patel Vintage 1979 Robusto, a wonderfully aged cigar with a wrapper that has been aging for almost 40 years. The initial flavors were mild-to-medium.

Final Thoughts:

I liked the Rocky Patel Vintage 1979 Robusto, but I didn't love it. During the middle of the cigar, I had a perfect burn and a perfect draw. Also in the middle third were some faint citrus flavors, like those of an orange or tangerine.

However, at a $12-15 price point, I'm not sure this cigar is worth it. While there weren't specific things to point out in the negative column, there weren't a lot of things that stood out in the positive column either. And, the nearly 40-year-old African Cameroon wrapper didn't add as much to the cigar as I would have hoped.

So, for me, the Rocky Patel Vintage 1979 Robusto earns a CigarScore 3. It's good; I don't think you'd be disappointed if you smoked one. But, I think the flavors could have been richer and more complex for a cigar wrapped in a leaf aged like this one.

Final Thoughts:

The Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut Epicure is a well-made cigar with good flavors. Though it's not as bold as the Perdomo Champagne, it's still quite delicious.

I enjoyed this cigar. There's nothing to complain about, the flavors are fantastic, and the price is right. I'd recommend it and I'd smoke it again. 

For these reasons, the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut Epicure earns a CigarScore 5.

Finally, after months of searching my local lounges, CIGRco sent me a Fratello Bianco! I've been looking for this cigar since discovering the Fratello brand in Q1 of 2019, so when I pulled it out of the CIGRco August box, I was super excited!

The Fratello Bianco III, which is a robusto, is wrapped in a dark Mexican San Andres wrapper. The cold draw has flavors of light, semi-sweet chocolate. The cigar is easy to light, and the draw is fantastic.

When I started the Fratello Bianco III, I had medium-high expectations. I'd smoked several Fratellos by this point and I loved both the Fratello Navetta and the Fratello Navetta Inverso, so I hoped the Bianco would deliver the delicious goods.

And it did! The Fratello Bianco III is a great cigar, and I think it's a satisfactory replacement for the higher-priced options I just mentioned. Although it's not as premium, it does cost about 25% less. This cigar had a great draw and a decent burn. With each puff, I could get plenty of flavorful smoke.

Because I'd smoke this cigar again and I'd recommend you check it out, the Fratello Bianco III robusto earns a CigarScore 5.

The Charter Oak Connecticut marks the beginning of my search for the perfect breakfast cigar. While I used to shy away from adding a cigar to my morning coffee routine, I've slowly come around to the idea that the two might go well together.

So, today, I'm lighting up the Charter Oak Connecticut Natural Toro. Despite some visual oddities and an area where the rollers might've tried to cover up a flaw in the wrapper leaf, the cigar lights easily. The initial flavors were like those of Wheaties cereal, and perhaps a touch of honey.

Final Thoughts:

For the most part, the Charter Oak Connecticut Natural Toro that I smoked had an even burn. However, I didn't like how the roller hid the dime-sized hole in the wrapper behind where they knew the paper label would go. Instead of making this stick a "factory second" for the bargain bin, they packaged it as a perfect first-run.

Additionally, in the final third of the cigar, the flavors became harsh, there was a patch of bitterness, and I just didn't love how it tasted. It's too bad because the flavors in the first third were pretty good.

Because I wouldn't smoke this cigar again, and I think there are much better cigars for just about a dollar more in cost, I give the Charter Oak Connecticut Natural Toro a CigarScore 2.

One of the coolest parts about being part of a cigar subscription club such as Luxury or Good Cigar Co is that you get to try new cigars from a variety of companies. And today, I'm smoking a delicious-looking stick from a boutique cigar maker named Bespoke Cigars. And this is the Daughters of the Wind.

Despite having some slightly conflicting information about this cigar, and not knowing exactly what kind of tobacco was in it, the Bespoke Cigars Daughters of the Wind Calico was a very well made stick.

Wherever it was from, the wrapper leaf was absolutely beautiful. The draw was almost alright, but it did seem to open up just a little in the final third - which, to me, was a good thing. The burn was even though most of the cigar, though I might've hit it with a quick blast from my torch.

But, for $20, I'm not sure I love this cigar. I wouldn't mind trying it again, but at this price point, I'm very conflicted as to how the Bespoke Cigars Daughters of the Wind would stack up against a Plasencia Alma Fuerte Generacion V, or other cigars in the $15-$20 price range.

There are some flavors in this Daughters of the Wind cigar that I just didn't love, and those are affecting the Score. Those flavors, plus a $20 price tag, earn this cigar a CigarScore 3.

Initial Thoughts:

MBombay Cigars is a brand with which I'm not too familiar. But, they're somewhat active on social media, so I've seen them around. And it's MBombay Cigars that makes the MBombay Classic Belicoso.

This cigar is a short, thick cigar with a lighter Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. The draw starts off really nice and the even burn will quickly require you to remove the excessively long, top label. However, there is a fairly thick vein that runs from the smoking end down through the label, so I'm cautious to see how the MBombay Classic Belicoso ends up.

Final Thoughts:

After smoking the cigar, I have to admit, the MBombay Classic Belicoso is not my cup of tea. The aroma of the smoke was good, but the actual flavors were just mediocre. They started okay, but declined through to the final third.

And again, the flavors fo the MBombay Classic Belicoso aren't bad, they're just not for me. Especially when compared to the RoMa Craft Intemperance EC XVII I reviewed here, which is of a similar blend, similar vitola, and similar price point.

Because I wasn't terribly impressed with this cigar and would prefer to smoke something else, the MBombay Classic Belicoso earns a CigarScore 2.
