Following the disappointing fan reception of A New Beginning, Paramount decided to bring back the hockey masked Jason Voorhees in 1986's Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI. Directed by Tom McLoughlin, this entry tried to shock (literally) new life into the Jason mythos with campy self referential humor, a gothic aesthetic, music by shock rocker Alice Cooper and an undead Jason.
This time we find Tommy Jarvis (Thom Mathews) inadvertently resurrecting Jason (CJ Graham). Now on the run from a hard as nails sheriff who thinks he is the killer and the sheriff's daughter (Jennifer Cooke) who seems to have a soft spot for possible killers, Tommy must correct the damage he's wrought as Jason embarks on a bloody rampage against counselors, cops, company execs and.....kids?
Despite being the lowest grossing of the series, Jason Lives has gone on to become one of the better loved titles of the Friday the 13th franchise. Join me and Tyler of All My Heroes Wear Masks as we discuss if a lightning bolt rejuvenates this film or if Tommy Jarvis should have left Jason dead and buried.
Stay tuned after the initial show with a special interview with Part VI's Jason himself: CJ Graham!
