A talk  with John Neff. John has been a professional in the sound industry since making his first record in 1965. While a recording artist and performer for many years, John has been ‘behind the glass’ on the studio production side of things for over 30 years, producing and engineering hundreds of records, commercials, sound for TV, Radio, DVD, Internet, Video and Feature Motion Pictures. He was David Lynch’s Chief Engineer, Studio Manager and musical co-writer/performer for eight years in Hollywood.

Recent accomplishments include 2 new albums for the legendary band, “Journey”, 5.1 Surround Mix for the Feature Film, “Dark Reel” (released March 2009), Live and Studio albums for Singer Keith England (formerly Allman Bros.), a CD project for Troubadour Rondo Beutler, the 5.1 soundtrack mix of the festival trailer (preview) for a 2007 feature film titled “Inner Balance”; location, music and mix work on David Lynch’s feature film “Inland Empire”; Mix of the soundtrack for Michael Franti’s  feature documentary film, “I Know I’m Not Alone”, and Audio and Video production of all content for davidlynch.com.  Neff also did the 5.1 Remixes and Restorations for DVD release of Lynch’s films, “Eraserhead”, “The Elephant Man”, “Blue Velvet”, “Wild At Heart”, “Twin Peaks—Fire, Walk With Me”, and mixed the theatrical soundtracks and soundtrack CDs for Lynch’s theatrical releases, “The Straight Story” and “Mulholland Drive”. He provided original music for both of those films and recorded and mixed the scores as well.

John has a CD in release with Lynch entitled “Blue Bob”, which they premiered at the legendary Olympia Theatre in Paris, and they together wrote, performed and recorded the theme song of the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, “Cannes Memory”.

GOVERNOR LINGLE TO SPEAK AT THE NVMC “LEADERSHIP SERIES”

 

Former Governor Linda Lingle will speak at the Nisei Veterans Memorial

Center’s (NVMC) Leadership Series Luncheon on Sunday, December 16 at 1:30pm at the Kahili Golf Course Nahele Ballroom. The event is $35.00 per person and includes a buffet lunch. Call 244-6862 or

The Honorable Linda Lingle served as the state’s sixth Governor from 2002-2010. She was the first Republican governor of Hawaii since 1962. Lingle was also the first female governor of Hawaii and its first Jewish governor. Prior to serving as governor, Lingle served as Maui County Mayor and as a Council Member. At the luncheon, Governor Lingle will share her thoughts and observations on leadership.

 

Governor Lingle will close-out the year long “Leadership Series” which welcomed Governors Ariyoshi, Waihee, Ige and Abercrombie throughout 2018. Each Governor shared their views on leadership and the values of aloha in their time on the 5th floor of the Capitol as well as in today's contemporary society.

 I call upon the divine force in me. I now create a life where I become whole. I step into my bliss. I open my heart to receive.  The life I want is waiting. I am happy to be alive. I find happiness in all the magical moments of life that occur. I am aware when a smile comes to my face how the whole energy of my body changes. I smile often. Thank you, God. And so it is!

 His Holiness the Dalai Lama says

Since our goal and the purpose of life is happiness, what is happiness?

Consider the case of humans who feel no physical threats. They have a happy, comfortable life, good friends, salary, and name. But, even then, we notice that some millionaires, for example – they feel that they are an important part of society, but often these people as persons are very unhappy persons. On a few occasions I have met very rich, influential people who showed a very troubled sense that, deep inside, they had a

compassion and affection help the brain to function more smoothly. Secondarily, compassion gives us inner strength; it gives us self-confidence and that reduces fear, which, in turn, keeps our mind calm. Therefore, compassion has two functions: it causes our brain to function better and it brings inner strength. These, then, are the causes of happiness. Whenever I give talks, I say that we modern people think too much of external development. If we pay attention only to that level, that’s not enough. Genuine happiness and satisfaction must come from within.

Ha a great talk with Grammy Award winner Ricky Kej .Ricky is an Indian composer, music producer and Environmentalist. In 2015, he won a Grammy at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards for his album Winds of Samsara, a collaboration with South African flautist Wouter Kellerman, in the Best New Age Album category.[1] The project, his 14th studio album, had made a debut at #1 on the US Billboard New Age Albums Chart in August 2014,[2][3] a first for a person of Indian origin.[4] The album also peaked at #1 on the Zone Music Reporter Top 100 Radio Airplay Chart in the month of July 2014.[5]

His album Shanti Samsara - World Music for Environmental Consciousness was launched on November 30, 2015 at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then French President, Francois Hollande.[6] In the months since its launch, Kej has traveled widely speaking about conservation and the environment, including a visit to the Republic of Kiribati, where he interviewed and created music with three-term ex-president, Anote Tong.[7]

Kej has previously composed the soundtrack for four feature films in the Kannada language, and is credited with over 3,000 placements for Radio and Television Jingles.[8] He also composed the music for the 2011 Cricket World Cup opening ceremony, held at Dhakka on 17 February 2011.[9] On April 26, 2016, Kej travelled to Jaipur, India where he was named as goodwill ambassador for Save the Children's new global campaign, Every Last Child.[10] On July 18, 2016, Kej was awarded the Excellence and Leadership award as a global humanitarian artist at the United Nations Headquarters, New York and performed excerpts from Shanti Samsara live in the United Nations General Assembly Hall. Kej concluded his performance at the United Nations General Assembly by saying, "To end, I want to state the obvious ... Climate change is real ... Climate change is human induced. Climate change is affecting us all ... and our actions affect countries on the other side of the world."[11][12]

Following his return to India, a gala live performance of Shanti Samsara was given at the Bangalore Palace on 23 July 2016, with many of the original artists performing.[13]Shanti Samsara has earned prizes from the Global Music Awards,[14] the International Acoustic Music Awards,[15] and was a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.[16]

In 2018, Ricky was named in the prestigious "Real Leaders 100 List". Real Leaders (A Signatory to the United Nations) curates this list of leaders who 'Inspire the Future'. In May 2018, Kej was honoured by The House of Commons, Canada for "Outstanding Musical and Humanitarian Achievement".[17] Ricky was the only representative from India.[18][19] Ricky Kej's life and journey as a musician is now taught to 7th Grade children in India as part of the ICSE syllabus English textbooks.[20]Ricky Kej is notably also a professor at the prestigious National Institute of Advanced Stud
