For this episode, we screen a landmark movie: Sidney Lumet’s Network. This masterpiece satire examines the outsized influence of television on our daily lives. It continues to be frighteningly relevant to this day. Network won numerous awards, including Oscars for Peter Finch, Faye Dunaway, and Beatrice Strait. Paddy Chayefsky also won his third screenwriting Academy Award.
To pair with Network, we enjoy an affordable Chilean Cabernet, and it turns out to be outstanding!

Next up, we kick off our time travel series with a most bodacious flick from the 80s.

We discuss the finale of Obi Wan Kenobi, the new miniseries on Disney+. From a weak beginning, Ewan McGregor’s starring vehicle has gotten progressively better. Not great–just better. As always, this is a recap and review, so spoilers abound!. Proceed with caution!

Our final wedding episode takes us to an all-time 80s classic: The Princess Bride. Director Rob Reiner and writer William Goldman team up with a top-notch cast to deliver a loving spoof of beloved fantasy tales. Ironically, this became a beloved fantasy tale in its own right. Loaded with famous quotes, hilarious performances, and wonderful set design and music, this is a must for any serious movie fan.
To pair with this great flick, we drink some delicious Rosé of Pinot Noir.
Next up: We have a gap week, so we screen the classic Network. After that, time travel movies!

For this episode, we recap and review the penultimate (<< $100 word alert) episode of Obi Wan Kenobi, now airing on Disney+. We also drink some affordable Spanish rosé to pair with our main series on wedding movies. This particular wine would be perfect for an outdoor wedding: It goes with grill food, and it will cool down your sweaty guests.
As always, *SPOILERS ABOUND* in this episode. Proceed with caution.
Next up: We finish up our wedding series with The Princess Bride.

Part four of our wedding series brings us to a recent classic. On the surface, Palm Springs might sound a bit too much like Groundhog Day. But dig a little deeper, and this is a much darker and philosophical counterpart. In a brief synopsis, a young woman (Cristin Milioti) attends her sister’s wedding, where she meets a kooky, cocky stranger (Andy Samberg). They vanish into the Palm Springs desert for a little nookie, where she is unknowingly pulled into a mysterious, magical cave. Afterwards, she finds herself stuck in a loop of this exact day, with this nihilistic goofball as her only true companion.
Palm Springs is one of my recent favorites, and I loved discussing it with the guys. Along the way, we downed some outstanding Cabernet from Trapiche Winery, out of Argentina. It’s a rich, full-bodied red that clocks in around $10, perfect for any wedding reception.
Next–our wedding bonanza concludes with an 80s masterpiece you might not expect!

For this mini-episode, Travis and I discuss the premiere of Ms. Marvel, Marvel’s latest superhero series, now on Disney+. Ms. Marvel represents a true hybrid: Not only is it a coming-of-age comedy and an origin story that sets up The Marvels, but this series also adds to Marvels attempt to incorporate more diversity into the MCU. Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, is a Pakistani-American teenager, and the child of first-generation immigrants. Judging from the first episode, this season should be a lot of fun. In any case, Travis and I discuss our opinions. Once again, *SPOILERS ABOUND*! Proceed with caution.
Also in this short episode, we draw a random movie to screen before our time travel series kicks off in July!

On this mini-episode, we take a look at episode 4 of Obi Wan Kenobi, now on Disney+. This is a review and recap, so *spoilers abound*. To go with our main series on wedding films, we drink a couple of wines that have played a big part in my own marriage, including a Spanish bubbly our honeymoon.
Next up, Travis and I will take a couple of mini-pods to discuss Ms. Marvel and Top Gun: Maverick. After that, a wedding flick from 2020 that’s already become an instant classic.

It’s part four of our series on wedding movies! This time, we screen a 90s classic, Four Weddings and a Funeral. A low-budget British rom-com, this film launched the careers of Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell. It was also nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Picture. To pair with this great flick, we drink a toast-worthy bubbly: The Brut Rosé from Gerard Betrand. This is an affordable sparkling wine, especially if you’re looking to celebrate, but don’t want to break the bank.

In this installment, we take a look at the third episode of Obi Wan Kenobi, now live on Disney+. This will be a recap and a review, so *spoilers* abound! Proceed with caution. To pair with this discussion, we borrow an affordable white Bordeaux from our series on wedding movies.

Our wedding series continues with a 90s staple: My Best Friend’s Wedding. It features huge stars, a bouncy soundtrack, and was one of the biggest hits of the decade. Full disclosure: I wasn’t a fan of it then, and I’m even less of one now. (And I love rom-coms.) Surprisingly, the boys were on the same page. This is one gets pretty goofy. We don’t touch on the wine until around the thirty minute mark, but the Crios Torrontés from Argentina is a great, affordable pick for wedding receptions. Or, you know, watching overrated 90s movies.
