  • Let’s Get Dabney Coleman an Oscar (Unseen Movies)
This week, the boys and I talk about the most famous movies we’ve never seen.  Everybody’s got at least one or two classic unseen movies.  There’s a movie that everybody quotes, that’s won tons of awards, and you’ve never seen it.  But, you smile and nod like you have.  We talk about those movies, and we drink some delicious grower Champagne.

Now, when it comes to the indulging of alcohol, I ain’t no advocate of being reckless.  That said, the internet is a wide world of hypotheticals, so we’ll deal in that for a second.  If a person were a grown-ass adult, they could play a decent drinking game out of our silly little podcast.  In this pretend scenario, the rules would go something like:
Every time one of the gang offers an “RIP” to a celebrity, drink.
If that celebrity is not actually dead, drink twice.  (Past examples include Bill Pullman, Martin Sheen, and Theon Greyjoy…that last of whom is a fictitious character.)
Every time either Taylor or Travis says “woof.”  Every time they indicate a celebrity needs “a breath mint,” or “needs to go home.”  Drink.
Every time Travis answers a question with gibberish, drink.  (“Trav, what’s your favorite war movie?”  “Jerry Maguire?“)  Every time Travis bursts randomly into song, drink.
When Todd imitates any celebrity or accent, that’s one drink.  Sean Connery equals two drinks.
If the team references Big Top Pee Wee, Gordie, or Stanley Tucci, finish your current beverage and pour a new one.
Now that we’ve got that all out of the way…this week we’re talking ’bout baseball.  Opening Day is coming fast, and that seems like as good a time as any to cover our favorite baseball movies.  And there’s tons of ’em.  For these shenanigans, we drink some tasty beer:

The Maximus IPA is a burly, citrusy offering.  It’s ~9% ABV, but goes down so smooth you’d never guess.

We followed up our brew with some balanced, lightly acidic white from Kermit Lynch.  You can find a little more info right here.  Also, Travis asked me to post the Youtube clip of Darth Vader overdubbed with James Earl Jones’ dialogue from other movies.  Fine.  Here you go, Trav.
So, kick back and enjoy a little Cinemavino…

  • 14. Don't Forget to Wear Your Hug
When we started the Cinemavino podcast, I hadn’t heard my voice since I started my own “radio show” at the age of ten.  Holed up in my bedroom, I pilfered a tape recorder and talked about my favorite movies (Ghostbusters and Stars Wars, as I recall).  I also remember talking about my baseball heroes, the Bash Brothers.  Hey–I didn’t know they were all ‘roided out, and neither did you…so zip it.  Anyway, it had been that long since I’d been in front of a mic.  This whole thing has been a learning process, and I feel we’ve come a long way in a short time.
If starting this website has been about doing what I love, then Cinemavino has been the social extension of that.  I want to extend my thanks to Taylor Owens and Travis Budd for adding their silliness to my own.  They bring a lot to the table–quite literally.
So, with this episode, we discuss our most obnoxious movie characters of all time.  A few TV characters spill in there, too.  After all, TV is the domain of grating personalities.  With the second half of the broadcast, we talk a little about ourselves.  This leads to a broader conversation about nerd culture, and when exactly we think it went mainstream.  We pair this chat with a delicious New Zealand Pinot Grigio, The Ned.  It’s a great, lightly floral white with balanced acidity and a velvety finish.  If you want to know more, click here.
Kick off your shoes, and sink your feet into the soothing Epsom bath of Cinemavino.

  • 13. The King We All Deserve
Our discussion this week involves what cast and crew we’d love to hang with behind the scenes.  Put another way, who would we want to have a beer (or two) with?  Now that I think about it, I’d like to change my answer to Babe.  I think that little hog and I would just laugh and laugh.
Anyway, we switch from wine to beer for this episode, and both of our samplings were quite nice.

First, we tried the Imperial IPA from New Belgium.  It’s as big and hoppy as you might imagine.  And at 9% alcohol, it’s just what the doctor ordered for us slowly stop making sense.

Next, we took on another burly ale, this time from Lagunitas.  The Super Cluster is grassy and heavy on the citrus.  It ain’t for everybody, but it was definitely for us.
Anyway, close your eyes, relax, and get swept away by the gentle magic of Cinemavino…
