Because technology has risen to become a critical pillar of business strategy, boards and CIOs may need to elevate their engagement and collaboration with each other, and a trusted relationship between the board of directors and the CIO takes effort on both sides.
In this episode we cover the relationship between the CIO and their board of directors. What are the expectations, pressures, and opportunities that a CIO faces when working with their companies' board? I had a chance to talk with Warren Perlman, CIO of Ceridian, to get his perspective on what it takes to have a strong relationship with the board, how to build trust, change minds, influence members, and show them how you’re executing on your vision.

Change is constant. But often when change comes knocking at the door, it can feel unwelcome. Unless we imagine the opportunities change might bring. And dare to lead it.
In this episode we hear from Ross Forgione, CIO of the Australia-Based law firm of Johnson Winter & Slattery, who talks about the ubiquitous issue that technology leaders face, resistance to change. Ross, who has been a CIO across multiple industries – from broadcast to manufacturing and now legal, outlines the way in which he threads the needle between laying out a technology vison for the future and addressing the concerns of the various stakeholders who will now have to do things differently as a result of that vision.

With nearly 24 million people—a little over 15% of the workforce— involved in military, public, and national service at the local, state, and federal levels, the public sector in the U.S. faces some unique challenges from a modernization standpoint. Constrained by regulations but tasked with some of the most critical services, there is no shortage of obstacles to implementing the necessary changes to keep pace with emerging threats as well as the demands of the citizens that these entities have sworn to serve.
In this episode, we’ll hear from Matt Livingston, VP Digital Platforms, and Mark Forman, VP Digital Government Strategy at SAIC, which stands for Science Applications International Corporation, an American company that provides government services and information technology support. In this conversation, Matt and Mark talk about the most critical problems that need solving and where scarce resources should be applied?

Our unique digital experiences are now being driven, more and more, by artificial intelligence and machine learning, making it a critical component of the applications that businesses are using to differentiate themselves in their respective industries. To make the promises of AI a reality across global organizations, it has been equally critical for technology leaders to have a firm grasp on the difference between conversations about the state-of-the-art vs the state-of-the-practice. In this episode Bask Iyer, VMware's CIO and Chief Digital Transformation Officer, has a hype vs reality AI fireside chat with Neil Jacobstein, Chairman of the AI and Robotics Track at Singularity University and MediaX Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Stanford. In this conversation, they tease apart what's working, what's not, and what's next, so that IT leaders can translate the technology discussion into business outcomes.

This episode is a part of our ongoing conversation about technology and healthcare, where we cover the roles technology plays in the delivery and management of healthcare services. For decades now healthcare has been identified as an industry ripe for disruption but it has been very slow to realize the innovation promised by the would-be disruptors. To discuss some of the reasons why, I talk with Jorrit Ebben, the Chief Innovation and Strategy Officer of Academy Het Dorp to get his take on why everyone from startups to large companies can’t innovate at the pace of other industries and get a chance to hear some of his stories from the tranches as well as his hopes for the future.

In the wake of high-profile technology companies like Twitter and Facebook announcing a permanent shift to remote work, the rest of the business world has been left wondering whether this is something they should embrace as well. Patrick lays out the intense challenges he faces between regulatory constraints, patient safety, and the pressures to enhance the patient experience with new, but safe, technology.

Deciding what your priorities are as an IT organization has become exponentially more difficult, amid a global landscape that is rapidly shifting every day. Technology leaders have the opportunity, and the burden, to differentiate their businesses within their industry or face the prospect of declining revenues and tumbling stock prices.
Finding the gaps in the enterprise application portfolio has become a key focus for CIOs and their teams, but knowing how to approach this problem in light of many new constraints has been a critical area of concern. Listen to this hallway-style conversation between Joe Beda, VMware Principal Engineer and James Watters, CTO, Modern Application Platforms as they discuss how technology leaders can approach these gaps, from an API and trusted-manifest-centered approach to applications and infrastructure design to improving the developer experience through tools and community engagement.
